Loved these pastels when I first started using them and their vibrant color they gave to my art!

I'm trusting that the pencil-like shape of the chalks keeps them from meeting the same fate as all the previous chalk sets I've used over the years. Apparently I am clumsy, and the top of my craft desk is a hot mess...I can find things better when chaos rules my arting and crafting. Inevitably, my chalk sets end up on the floor, where I miss one or two during the cleanup, and end up walking on them and grinding chalk into the carpet. I have some very distressing areas of weird colors ground deeply into the carpet fibers. I'm thinking of installing a non-sticky barrier over the lower half of each layer of chalks to hold them in place. Must put on my thinking cap.

I didn't consider the se a hard pastel. All that though I liked the texture. I found they layered nicely over one another. I think they are great for textured sanded papers. I don't think I would try to use them on any other surface. I did find I had to rub them a little at first to get the shiny coating off. I only had the 24 set so I was definitely limited on colors. But overall, it's a nice set to travel with or if you don't want to spend a ton of money. They are smaller then I expected.

These were rock hard, not soft. The square type used for shaving and shading. I was hoping for the soft pastels which are easier to draw.

These seem to be good chalks. They have a good variety of colors. They work better on thick textured paper rather than the cheap watercolor/marker paper for children from a big box store. Fixativ spray is necessary if you do not want to have chalk smearing on your final project or to have it coming off on your hands after it is complete. These seem to be doing well for us, but we are beginners at this medium.

They are far smaller than I expected. About the size of a large birthday candle. And they came in a very small box. The picture suggests many many pastel chalks. It's a small box. They break easily. That being said, the children are enjoying using them.
