Chincoteague Native
I grew up on the Island of Chincoteague in Virginia and spent the first 28 years of my life there ... hence my nickname "Teaguer". I still go back every year to visit family and friends. I grew up on the Island working my summers in the local seafood restaurants (Busboy, Cook, & Waiter - I was the first Waiter on the Island) and I spent a couple of years in-between college in the late 80's working as a deck hand on the 120' Sea Clam Harvester "John Marvin" when it was based out of the Chincoteague Port. I am very familiar with Chincoteague Seafood and can attest to the quality of their products. I relocated to Florida in 1992. I have always enjoyed Oyster Stew and have been buying Campbell's Oyster Stew down here from the local supermarket ever since. Some years ago Campbell's stopped producing the Oyster Stew and I was very sad to find out that I could no longer have my Oyster Stew (which I often enjoyed with some Oyster Crackers and a side of canned Smoke Oysters - great for dipping). At the time, I could not find it anywhere and I just assumed I would have to do without something I had enjoyed my whole life. Recently, I began thinking about how much I missed enjoying my Oyster Stew. So I searched on the internet to see if I could find it somewhere and Voila! ... I found the Chincoteague Seafood Oyster Stew. Initially, I was a little apprehensive because you could only purchase it by the case and it was not cheap ... besides, how much Oyster Stew can one man eat! LOL! Well ... based on my strong belief and familiarity with Chincoteague Seafood I went ahead and purchased a case of it and it did not disappoint. The quality is exceptional and I love it! It a very similar in taste to the Campbell's Oyster Stew, except I would say it is a little thicker and richer. I prefer it mixed with whole milk instead of whole or light cream. I will likely try some of their other soup offerings in the future. Thanks to Chincoteague Seafood for providing such quality soups!p.s. I rarely ever post reviews (good or bad) for anything I purchase ... so just knowing that I took the time to post this review should say a lot about what I think of "Chincoteague Oyster Stew".

Excellent Oyster stew
It is difficult to find Oyster Stew in grocery stores, but I really enjoy it when I can find it. This particular brand is very tasty and easy to prepare. While the instructions on the can suggest that butter can be added, I think that suggestion should be followed since it really enhances the flavor. I also added some minced garlic and some black pepper, but that is just for my taste and not everyone would probably want to do that. I still have several cans left, so I'm going to experiment a bit with other additions.

Very good Oyster Stew!!
I am very impressed with this stew. It is extremely concentrated so with it being a 15 oz can, half a can with some half & half plus hot water is a good serving. A person can use milk or water or both as per taste. It has no MSG & the oysters are Wild Caught. The oysters aren't whole but there are plenty of pieces ( unlike Bookbinders Oyster Stew, which barely has any oyster). The flavor is good. Will no doubt purchase again.

I like really liked the Campbell's
I use to by Campbell's brand oyster stew until they stop making that. I like really liked the Campbell's. I did not care for any other brand until I found this one. It does not have a whole oysters in it which is fine, I just add an 8oz can of crown prince or some brand of boiled oysters and some butter and the end result is very close to Campbell's . This is my second case of these I am very happy! Each can came wrapped in newspaper to help protect it but in one order I did have some lightly dented cans but not to bad the other case arrived in perfect condition. I am sure it was the shipper being rough. I will continue to buy, please don't stop making this.

Very tasty!
I missed Campbell's oyster stew so I thought I'd give this a try. Let me first say that this is nothing like Campbell's so if that's your only goal...don't. BUT THIS IS REALLY GOOD. I love the flavor and consistency of this soup. I use fat free milk but only half a can and it makes a great bowl of soup to accompany grilled cheese dinner night. Glad I took a chance and ordered it.

It's taste is OK, but I won't buy it again.
Taste is OK, but there are essentially no pieces of oyster in it, it's at best a cream soup. On top of that, they use a lot of things in there that sure as heck would not be going into MY homemade oyster stew! Too many additives, not enough oysters. And it's not cheap. It's taste is OK, but I won't buy it again.

My local Wally World stopped carring Campbell's Oyster Stew.
The place on the Campbells Soup shelf for Oyster Stew remained empty for about one year. Inquiry of Wally's personnel disclosed a litany of reasons why. Finally, one of managers told us our store would no longer sell this flavor. My order, through Amazon was delivered quickly and this product is very good. I'm getting ready to re-order as the shelf in my home is getting bare.

Good, but not as good as Campbell's.
Although it is not as good as Campbell's oyster soup was, it still tastes pretty good. I generally add some canned oystes, butter, salt and pepper, and often use the immersion blender on it..
