First summer was a good summer
I used this all summer and am pleased with the performance. I have ~400 feet to edge and when the soil is relatively dry I can do that on one charge and have 2 bars showing when I am done. Damp earth gums up in the guard, requiring it to be cleared at intervals, and the mud loads the motor, shortening the battery life. But I can still get it done on one charge if I keep the guard mostly free of mud. The guard was designed by lawyer and not an engineer / user and so has to be modified to make the unit usable. As delivered it prevents the blade from getting deep enough and gums up with soil constantly. The string trimmer seems to be fine. I am no expert on this part as I have only a small amount of trimming to do. I note that upon receipt, and after the 1st battery charge, the battery didn't last very long. I had to charge it 3 times for the 400 ft. After the 2nd charge, the energy storage seems to have improved nicely. The guard modification to rid the machine of the unnecessary load probably helped in this regard. I also note that the grease bushing in the trimmer attachment somehow worked its way up the shaft and jammed the indexing button so that it no longer worked. A deep socket and a hammer drove it back to its home and all is well. How that bushing moved I do not know.

So much better than fighting my old 2 stroke.
Very impressed with this weed eater. I haven't been too excited to jump into the realm of electric yard tools but I was sick and tired of fighting an old two stroke engine. I've always had a good experience with Dewalt and this was no exception. Plenty of power and cuts great. The battery lasts longer than I do. I would last a little longer if it had a shoulder strap but the weight is managable. It's also compatible with the pole trimmer attachment which will be one of my next purchases.

Powerful, Quieter, and Easier to Handle
Much quieter, lighter and easier for me to handle things version. We have 2 batteries and we are ready to stop WAY before those batteries run down. We charge mostly over night so can't say exactly how long it takes. Easy to do quick clean up and we have also cleaned out heavily over grown areas that took a couple of hours. We also bought the saw/disk extension for this machine. It has cleared out inch thick weed stems efficiently. Very satisfied. Have sold our gas version of weedeaters and also switched to Dewalt's electric chainsaws.

Finally needed a new weed whacker so I bought this one...
So here in the great state of CA, where gas weed whackers are bad (I hear this in Mr. Mackey's voice) and unbuyable. My gas powered Troybilt after 10yrs. had a good run but it's tired. Being a Dewalt tool guy, I did my research and thought I'll give this weed whacker a shot. With a 9ah 60v/20v battery it lasts long enough to do both front and backyards edging and removing anything in the cement cracks arounds the house, along the sidewalk and the street gutters. Has plenty of power (has 2 speeds), though I seem to prefer "high speed" for edging the grass and "low speed" for weed clean up in cement cracks and such. It takes a second to ramp up to full speed but it doesnt struggle when it's going. It takes .080 line but if you cheat at your own risk, you could put in .095 and that seems to be a lot more durable especially when its doing work on cement. And I now have used it for approximately 3 months and I can say for sure it a great tool, not perfect and defintely pricy. But there is one thing I did read and thought "oh that happens only to other people not me", well I'm one of those other people now. The trimmer head is STRAIGHT garbage. 3 months and now whatever soft cheap plastic they make the trimmer head out of it has worn out enough to not hold and bump the line out accordingly. The line just flies out now and wraps itself around the trimmer head and gets all knotted up. I did some internet searching and found a video channel called Chickanic on the "tubes" where she explains how to replace the trimmer head on any weed whacker. Looked pretty straight forward, so I bought one. If this works out I will have this Dewalt weed whacker sorted out properly. Though for the amount of money spent, shame on Dewalt for the trimmer head being a lame duck. That is why I'm giving this a 4 star review, debating on a 3 star. Not because of price or missing any particular feature but that crappy trimmer head that came with it. Like everyone else, I absolutely hate messing with the trimmer line, but I especially hate messing with the trimmer head that shouldn't be a problem so soon after buying it.

This is a game changer!
I've had this for a year now, and let me tell you, this is a game changer! I'm not good at pull cords, the whole gas/oil mix, and all that goes into most power tools. (I'm a woman in my late 50s who is used to doing chores, but not good at the tool maintenance and set-up.) This is finally something that is relatively easy maintenance, and is still heavy duty enough to do the work. I have other name brand weed eaters, but they take too much work to set up, so this is my go-to. The only drawback is that the battery only lasts about 30 minutes of hard use, so I'm debating getting a second battery, or just doing 30 minutes at a time between other chores. :-) After a year, it still works like brand new!

BEAST!! Definitely worth it!
Beast!! I did my homework researching this, and went ahead and took a chance....AMAZING PRODUCT!! I love this more than my gas one and my previous (other brand) one. I left mine on low and it still out performed my other weed trimmers. I only have a little over an acre of land, but the power was non-stop! Thank goodness I have other batteries, because I had to also use a back up battery. Definitely impressed!!

I am sure this is a good product, cannot test it out until the spring because we have snow here

I shopped around and was not disappointed with my choice. So much so that I then ordered a second battery. I jury-rigged a shoulder harness using a strong camera strap (NIKON) and was happy right away.

Good for lawn care! It’ blasts through battery fast though so your going to want to have a few of them.
