It’s an oil that meets the “three Bs” (Good, Nice, Almost Cheap). It cools high-carbon steel well. Since simple steels like 1084, 1095, 26C3, W1, W2, etc. (carbon steels) must be quenched in less than one second to fully transform into martensite, achieving 100% martensite ensures the steel reaches its full potential. The only difference between Park 50 and water or brine is that it doesn’t create as much internal stress in the steel, which helps prevent cracking and warping. It produces high hardness in the pieces. I used files to test HRC after quenching. I sanded the steel beforehand to remove decarburization and measured 62-64 HRC on the steels mentioned. Like any industrial oil, it is toxic, so avoid using it in enclosed spaces.

This is the real deal Parks 50. Very convenient shipping and handling. No leaks and works great.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do. It does smoke alot and has a not so great smell. Make sure to wash your blades with soap and water before you temper them or the left over oil residue will heat too much and blue your steel. Once i figured that out i was pulling 60-65 hrc easily on 80crv2 and 1095.

Like everyone else who uses this is share a simialar opinion, it's great quality and a gallon is plenty big for most projects including larger knives as long as you have the right sized container
