Challenging work-in book for exam-ready students
This is a work in book, with 10 brief ‘Units’ covering a range of Measurement, Geometry, and Statistics topics, including ‘Properties of 2D and 3D shapes’; ‘2D and 3D shapes including nets’; ‘Angle properties’; ‘Properties of circles’; ‘Metric and imperial units’; ‘Area and Perimeter’; ‘Volume of cuboids’; ‘Problems involving conversion’; ‘Translations and reflections in all 4 quadrants’; and ‘Statistics’. The questions are challenging, and this is very much a workbook for pupils with a good grasp of curriculum in the run up to the exam. There is a detachable section at the centre of the book containing worked answers.Having previously received a copy of this book through the Vine reviewer scheme pre-pandemic when I was working as a tutor, I recently purchased a new copy of this book for my 10 year old nephew to use. I have changed my opinion of this book slightly since I first reviewed it, a few years ago. When I initially reviewed the book the ‘Core and Stretch’ Maths examples included went significantly beyond the content of the Key Stage 2 Level 5 Maths curriculum, and into the content of the old, optional Level 6 – with no indication of where the questions were considered core, and where enhanced material. Since then, the curriculum has changed – become harder, with some of the od Level 6 content having been added in to the ordinary Level 5. The book is closer now to the regular KS2 SATS content for up to Level 5 than it had been.

Bond KS2 SATs Skills: Maths Workbook - Measurement, Geometry and Statistics
Bond workbooks are one of the best on the market for the 11+ or SATs success (I would say both these and the CGP range are excellent). There are a huge range of workbooks in the Bond Range, but this one is for 10-11 year olds and is for KS2 SATS Skills Maths Workbook – Measurement, Geometry and Statistics. The book contains ten units of activities which cover the Measurement, Geometry and Statistics part of the National Curriculum for maths – this includes shapes, nets, angles, properties of circles, metric and imperial units, area and perimeter, volume, translations and reflections, and more.Obviously, the SATs exams have changed a lot recently, with levels being replaced with standards. It would have been helpful to know which score you need to achieve to be working either ‘towards’ the expected standard, ‘at’ the expected standard or ‘above’ the expected standard. These test units do have a different number of questions, so it was perhaps difficult to give too much guidance. The SATs Maths exam now has three papers – two reasoning papers and one arithmetic paper. As well as a ‘Measurement, Geometry and Statistics’ book, there is also an Arithmetic book and a Numbers book. This particular book works on the core mathematical skills for the reasoning element of the SATs assessment and the ability to apply this knowledge in problem solving questions. Oddly, there is a ‘stretch’ book available in Arithmetic, but both the reasoning books are labelled ‘Core and Stretch,’ so attempt to combine the two. These are useful workbooks, but I would have liked to have seen a clearer view of what the results actually meant in terms of the standards achieved.
