Almost every book on the techniques and tools for oil painting has a handful of naysayers decrying the lack of this aspect or that. It's unlikely you'll find a book that covers such a comprehensive subject that has thought of all the needs of its readers. What this book does—what it did for me, a person new to oil painting—was prompt inspiration and fill my thoughts with endless ideas on approaching the canvas. And to my way of thinking, if a book moves a person to want to create, then it has succeeded. A fine book.

If you are new (or very rusty) to oil painting this is a very informative and easy to read book and one you can dip in and out of.
