I have a forced air wall heating unit. will this work with it? the unit is powered by 240 v line voltage and it takes 1500 watts power

I've been looking for a smart thermostat that will work with a line voltage forced air heater (cadet). In my searching, I see some indications that model# STZB402+ (the Zigbee version, not this Z-wave version) manufactured after January 2017 are compatible with with forced air heaters. Is the thermostat itself supposed to run warm?

I have mine hooked to 2 Radiant ceiling heating units. It will run warm when it is heating the room, about what a very active smart phone will feel like. The manual lists normal operating temperatures of 55°C (131°F), so it should be fine unless it is getting too hot to touch.

Do I have to have an in-wall thermostat for this to work, or can I use it to replace the on-the-baseboard heater dial thermostat?

It's for an in wall, so yea you must have an in wall.

The reviews aren't really clear as to whether this should work with an overhead radiant quartz heater (no fan) such as asin b00gc2yelg. any ideas?

This thermostat is meant to directly switch 240V AC. If your heater is 240V and under the max amperage, I think 20a but don't remember for sure, then yes this should work.
