Experience two classic Disney masterpieces, THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD and FUN AND FANCY FREE, together for the very first time on Blu-ray(TM). Enjoy Disney animation's humorous retelling of two unforgettable classics, THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW and THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS, wonderfully narrated by Basil Rathbone and Bing Crosby, which come together in one magnificent adventure. Then have some fun with Mickey, Donald and Goofy in FUN AND FANCY FREE, as Jiminy Cricket brings to life the timeless tales of BONGO and MICKEY AND THE BEANSTALK. This was the last animated feature starring Walt Disney as the voice of Mickey Mouse. These classic films follow Disney's tradition of combining great storytelling, unforgettable characters, music and adventure to create fun you can share with the whole family. Includes Disney bonus cartoon classic, THE RELUCTANT DRAGON -- only on Blu-ray!|Legend has it that the animator assigned to this film departed to serve in the Army during World War II, then returned four years later only to resume animating the exact same sequence he'd been working on!|Several of the characters from MR. TOAD appear in the 1983 short, "Mickey's Christmas Carol": Cyril, Toad (as Scrooge's first employer), Rat and Mole (as collectors for the poor), and two of the weasels (as gravediggers).|The film was originally titled TWO FABULOUS CHARACTERS.|Despite his huge nose, huge ears, and wispy red hair plaited tightly into a pigtail, Ichabod is portrayed as a ladies' man in the film.|"The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow" (ICHABOD) section of the movie is one of the few instances in a Disney film in which a bully -- Brom Bones -- gets the girl.

Ichabod and Mr Toad - what's not to like!!
Ichabod is the star for me as I think the original source material by Washington Irving, written in 1820, is very interesting. I read the short story as a lad of 9 or 10 and loved it then as well as today. Disney got Bing Crosby to be the narrator and he turned out to be absolutely perfect for the job!. The animation and sound work in perfect harmony here.Picture was perfect and sound was probably better than when it was first released in 1949.Mr Toad has also been a favorite of my since I was very young. I first read this in the Westfield, IN Library when I was even younger that of Ichabod - I was probably 7 or 8. I used to go to the library sometimes after school and just read for fun - usually picking books at random. But anyway the 'Wind in the Willows' was one I found most interesting. When I rode the ride in Disney World I was a little disappointed as I felt it didn't do the book justice. However the Disney animated version with Basil Rathbone is superb!. Once again the picture and sound was about as good as it can get on this Blu-ray!Mickey and the Beanstalk was pretty good as well but not as good as the other 2 above. Picture and sound was great.I didn't care as much for 'Bongo' story wise - it just wasn't as good as the other 3.I did think the short, ' The Reluctant Dragon' was cute!Run time all together was almost 2 hours and 30 minutes.Overall - I would rate this a 8.25 to 8.75 out of 10 (but Ichabod is a 10 out of 10!)HIGHLY RECOMMENDED OVERALL!!

My Favorite Classic Disney Cartoons -- Including a Halloween Favorite!
After a number of years I caved and bought it -- I wanted the double feature because Fun and Fancy Free was something my mother taped for me on vhs off the Disney channel when I was a baby and watched all the time as a kid and I love it, as opposed to just buying Ichabod and Mr. Toad for cheaper (which I love in the fall!). No regrets. Great to watch at any age, in my opinion. Sleepy Hollow and Wind and the Willows are great classic literature for inspiration that feel great in the fall (and Jack in the Bean Stalk is a great all around folk/fairy tale for Fun and Fancy Free). I love the old Disney cartoons and the nostalgia and find them relaxing but a joy overall. These dvd's can get expensive, so I haven't bought many from amazon directly. I do highly recommend this though.

A fantastic combo pack.
This is actually remastered quite well for high definition. I was very impressed with the picture quality with the animation. Disney did a great job with its presentation too. Mr Toad and Sleepy Hollow are two of my favorites from Disney and they look great here. The additional short animated films on here are great as well. A lot of care went into this that many other studios would've just done a simple release but this is truly top quality. High recommend for all ages.

What to expect in the box.
I was very confused by a number of things right out of the package, so I want to clear these up:Included in the Blu-Ray style case are three total discs. One is a Blu-Ray containing both films ("The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad" and "Fun and Fancy Free"), as well as the film "The Reluctant Dragon" (run time is about 75 minutes). This latter film is included as a bonus feature, accessed through either of the other two films' sub-menus. If you have not seen it before, it is a tour of one of Disney's old Animation Studios back when it was in use, followed by an animated short; the short is in color, the tour is not. Overall, it's a little propaganda-y, but still interesting for those who enjoy film-making and its history. The other two discs are the two primary films separated onto their own DVDs. The "Fun and Fancy Free" disc also has a 15 minute behind-the-scenes bonus feature on the making of the movie and a "storybook" retelling of the "Mickey and the Beanstalk" segment; I imagine this is included for younger children who just want to see Mickey, Donald, and Goofy without Edgar Bergen's constant interjections (however charming they might be). The "Ichabod" disc has no bonus features other than a similar "storybook" of the "Sleepy Hollow" segment. "The Reluctant Dragon" is NOT included on either DVD, only the Blu-Ray.If you want to learn more about the films, there is plenty of information elsewhere about their content, but I will give you just two points to consider. First, I will say I was very surprised by the "Bongo" segment on "Fun and Fancy Free," as a major plot point - and a full musical number - is centered around how bears say "I love you" by slapping each other. What follows is the aforementioned musical number involving multiple bears slapping their significant others. Perhaps this does not upset your sensitivities, but I was very uncomfortable with this message. The second warning I will give is considerably lower key: the Ichabod segment - while it has been remastered and generally sounds wonderful - has some issues with words. Bing Crosby narrates and voices nearly the whole feature, and although his voice is wonderful, there are some issues with understanding him when he is speaking... it is simply not clear. To make matters worse the writers chose a lot of less commonly used words for their descriptions and exposition (no one says "pedagogue" when they mean "teacher," at least not in 2019). I chose to rewatch it with the subtitles on, which helped considerably. If you are just looking to expand your Disney collection, I think this is a great set, and it was only slightly more to get the combo pack than either movie separately at the time of my purchase. These are by no means influential in terms of animation or entertainment value: indeed Disney was only producing these types of films following World War II as a way to recoup the money they spent on war propaganda films and shorts, but the films and segments are charming and unusual in terms of Disney branding, and I think that makes them worth while.

Disney sets the mood for Halloween with Ichabod Crane
I haven't watched the Fun and Fancy Free movie or the extras, but I've always been in love with the Ichabod Crane/Sleepy Hollow part of this movie (vs the Mr. Toad). I am a Halloween lover and have watched many a scary movie but the part where Ichabod is traveling home through the woods on his horse STILL makes me nervous. Disney does an excellent job setting the mood with the variety of sounds and lack of loud music (if any music at all) right before the Horseman shows up, you almost feel like you're there, too. Love love LOVE!

Haven't seen these in years!
TWO OF MY FAVORITES!! We love to collect Disney movies on Blu-Ray, and never hesitate to pick them up when they are released. These were ones that I had not seen in maybe 20 years that brought me right back. Our 1 year old loves Fun and Fancy Free, and my wife and I love the music of Icabod!Love this!

What a fantastic deal! We wanted The adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, and it was just a wonderful bonus to get the Fun and Fancy Free as well. Our son loves both of them. Very cute, family friendly stories :)
