Crash-Tested, Secure, Comfortable, Well-Fitting Protection
We were very satisfied with the quality and safety of this harness and the ease of use. We have used it during car rides with our Border Collie who is precious cargo! The harness secures him well to the carseat buckles while he is either sitting in the van seat or in his cozy booster carseat which carries with it a warning to couple it with a reliable safety vehicle harness. The harness maintains its secure adjustment, making it quick and easy to secure each time. It appears comfortable and it allows our furry friend to sit or lie down at will. The harness, which is among only a few that have been crash-tested, gives me peace of mind and fewer distractions while I am driving. I worry less now that my beloved pet would be suddenly thrust forward and injured in the event of an accident or a sudden, unexpected stop. He is restrained safely, but he is not uncomfortably restrained, and he still has the necessary freedom to change positions and shift to more comfortable positions. The harness is more for the purpose of protection than for restraint. Pairing this safety car harness with a well-designed, cozy carseat with decent support allows my doggy to safely see out the window to get a good view of the scenery and the other drivers on the road. My dog no doubt feels more secure with the harness and the carseat; he seems to love van rides even more when he is being less jolted around.

Very sturdy and well-made
This seemed like a professional set-up in harnesses, very sturdy and well-made. I found it difficult to get all the parts and pieces aligned to get my dog situated in it. Maybe with a little practice it seems like you’d get the hang of it.

Sizing is not accurate!
We Bought an XL for both our English Lab and Rottweiler. Description says it will fit both with room to spare, but it fits neither! Not even close. The harness is way too small even when adjusted to be as loose as it goes. Very disappointed. The harness did appear to be good quality though.

Two problems in an otherwise excellent product
Once you get the hang of the "nested" buckles on the rear strap, it works great. Two problems that caused me to buy a different type harness for dog #2. 1. The buckles/straps tend to loosen as soon as the harness comes off the seat belt. You have to re-tighten between rides... (ie a rest stop or trip to a pet super market. 2. You really cannot use it easily for walking the dog outside the car for a rest stop. The rear ring for this causes immediate loosening of the chest and belly straps. I realize that this product is NOT sold as a dog walking harness as the front and rear plates are stiff and would chafe on long walks, but it is promoted for short walks.

HEAVY duty, but dog could not lie down in car
For security, it gets 5 stars. This is SOLID and HEAVY and I do believe it will protect your dog. It was too much for my dog. She did not look comfortable trying to walk in it. In addition, there is no way I could get this set up in a way that my 40 pound boxer/husky mix could lie down in the back seat of my Ford Escape! (I needed her to lie down for a 4 hour car trip) I tried over and over again with the shoulder seat belt and either it got twisted or my dog got tangled while trying to move around. I ordered the harness clip, but they don't recommend it with this harness and it didn't help either, so it is going back too. I finally ordered their basic car harness and used it with another brand's seatbelt which attached to the car seat clip in the seat of my car. (so clip the mini leash seat belt to the car seat clip and the carabiner to the back of the harness while on the dog ) This gave my dog the freedom to sit up, walk to the window and lay down without getting tangled. She is not 100% secured to one seat using this method, but she is not able to roam around the whole car and is limited to the back seat.

Happy camper! Car rides are soooo much better.
We used to dread car trips with our little dog. She'd either whine in her crate (crate strapped in for safety) or scrabble around the car trying to get into the front seat. We were all exhausted long before we reached our destination. I was impressed with the safety testing on this harness and hopeful it would ease the strain of taking Maisie across the state to our daughter's college graduation. We did some practice rides during the week before leaving town, putting a cushion on the seat to give her some height so she could see out the window when sitting up. Even more important, she seemed happy to have boundaries and know which is her seat in the car. We had a great trip. Now, I take her for rides around town and on errands. She willingly gets into her "car coat" and seems pleased to be asked along. Big difference for us. There are cheaper harnesses, but this feels sturdy, well made and comfortable, and after getting her suited up a couple of times, it's a quick process. This purchase has been well worth it.

Dog chewed through it in less than 5 minutes :(
I don't typically review products. However, I purchased the Kurgo after quite a bit of research, because it seemed well designed, was the best-tested product for very large breed dogs, and was reasonably affordable. I have owned several dogs and never purchased a safety harness before, but I really wanted the peace of mind knowing both my dog and my family members would be safer in an accident. My dog is a 7 month old, approx 80 pound Bernedoodle. The Kurgo was relatively easy to adjust and my dog did not particularly mind wearing it -- as much as any dog can be agreeable to having a strange object strapped around them! We introduced the Kurgo by first putting it on, rewarding with treats, then immediately taking it off. Next we wanted to associate the Kurgo with going for a ride, which he already loved. So we would only let him go in the car with the harness on (not even buckled to the seat yet). We were just starting to try him buckled in (2nd time) and unfortunately I said "wanna go for a ride", when I didn't really have enough time to properly ensure all straps were fully tightened. However, because we were still in the training phase I let the slightly loose fit go because I didn't want to make an exception by letting him ride in the car without the harness. (In retrospect, I should have just left him home.) We drove a short way - less than 10 minutes round trip. I observed the dog in the back seat several times, sitting up and looking out the window, lying down, and everything looked perfectly normal. When we arrived home and I took the harness off, I immediately felt that one side was damp, and discovered that somehow in less than 10 minutes and without me seeing, he had nearly chewed through one strap. Look, it's not a shock that these harnesses aren't chew proof. And if my dog was a big chewer, I would blame myself 100% for the fact that he was able to work his jaw around the slightly loose straps. What I wanted other buyers to know is that this happened with a dog that is NOT a strong chewer. He has stuffed animals that he's had since he was an 8 week puppy that are still perfectly intact. I really was shocked that the strap material of the Kurgo could be sliced, almost as if by a knife, by my non-chewing dog in just a couple of minutes. If it hadn't been wet with his saliva, I would have wondered if it had arrived damaged! But being wet, I'm sure he was the culprit. I haven't yet decided if I'm going to reorder. I still think it's the best available safety harness for a large dog. But I wanted other buyers to know, do not put this on your dog without it being 100% properly adjusted, even during the introduction phase, as it has NO durability against chewing, even for just a few moments.

Impressive Detail and Workmanship
This harness arrived this afternoon, and I fitted it to our Giant Schnauzer. Large fits him nicely. This is a substantial harness, and it is well made. The stitching is tight, with small stitches, so there are more stitches to the inch - which can lend to the strength of the attachment. The chest portion seems very heavy duty, with some type of heavier reinforcement under the overlying fabric. In other words, the chest plate is not just two pieces of heavy duty fabric sewn together. The entire harness does look as if it could prevent a dog from flying forward on sudden impact. At any rate, heavier duty harnesses, well made and thought out, would seem to have a better chance of preventing him from hurling forward on a sudden stop. So we invested in this one. AS with all Kurgo harnesses, it was easy to put on, and adjust. And unless the dog takes to chewing on them occasionally (as ours sometimes does) -- they wear like iron. I'd recommend this based on construction, attention to detail, and prior experience with Kurgo harnesses.
