Maped Precision Compass for Circles up to 300 mm - Metal Baluster Compass with Universal Ring and Lead Case - Random Colour

My kids broke several of the metal ones you get at Tar*** or Wal*** so I decided to go online & see what else was out there. The compass has held up great, adjusts easily, holds position well enough & is very accurate. The case is quite sturdy, holds attachments & spare leads without being too bulky & would hold up well in a backpack. I got a different color for each of my kids so there's no question of ownership. Before computers I did technical illustration manually & have great appreciation for well made tools. This is a great student compass.

This is my third Maped Compass because it is the only company I can find that allows you to interchange writing utensils. It has the attachment that allows you to use any dimension pen, marker, pencil, etc you want to. You are not stuck just using their lead pencil.

I bought this compass because I wanted one that wouldn't slip while I moved it to draw a circle, pretty basic stuff for a compass, right? This Maped compass seems to be made of aluminum, which makes it strong and light. It comes with an adapter which allows you to use crayons or any other type of writing instrument that will fit. Overall, this is a very nice compass. I do have one complaint, however: the compass uses a screw and wheel for setting the distance between points, but it is possible to force it to move by pushing on the arms. I thought that whole point of the screw mechanism was to prevent that. It's not a huge problem, as long as you're careful not to put too much pressure on the compass while drawing a circle, but I could have given it 5 stars if not for this issue.

Unfortunately there were no instructions for how to attach the pencil holder. But an unboxing video showed me how. Picture shows the result of removing the lower portion of the leg with the lead and attaching the pencil holder in its place. This can be a useful option.

This seems like a nice, usuable compass, it was a christmas gift and it has not been used as of yet

First of all, it arrived in only 3days after I placed an order! This is very nice compass and my 15-years old son loves it. It's precision and strong. I am glad I ordered this one.

This compass came in a nice carrying case and looks to be built very solid, although I haven't used it much yet. I bought it as a requirement for a college class, but I haven't needed it yet. My only complaint is the attachment that came with it. It looks to be an attachment that you can use to attach another pencil to the compass. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to attach it to the compass. I think some instructions or at least a little picture would have helped.
