Exceptional reissue!
I almost didn't purchase this guitar because of some of the reviews. Maybe I was one of the fortunate ones but it came out of the box set up perfectly and ready to play. I learned how to play guitar on silvertone and Dan electro instruments so I'm able to compare this realistically to the originals. The sound is incredible, and while it isn't identical to the original it's very close and in some ways better. The vendor got the guitar to me within a few days in perfect condition. Several reviewers commented that the guitar was a "toy" and had a short scale. This guitar has a 25" scale which is right between Gibson and most Fenders, perfect in my opinion ! Do you self a favor and buy one!

Great little throwback guitar
Fantastic little electric with a big mod sound. Out of the box it needed a little emery board sanding down of the high (e) side of the frets in a couple spots to prevent the string from slipping off the finger board and getting stuck there but after that small touch up plays perfectly.

Not the same construction as the Danelectro it mimics!
This isn't a particularly bad "cheap" guitar, but not a fabulous bargain either. If I paid "a buck fifty" or so for it, I would have kept it, even though it is an epic fail in one aspect... This axe LOOKS like a vintage "Danelectro" style "U2" guitar, but it is NOT built like a classic "Dano!" This is a solid body guitar. It is NOT a semi hollow, Masonite top and back, hardwood frame built, chambered body. The comparison to vintage Sears "Silvertone" guitars which were genuine Danelectros is misleading. Looking like a U2 Dano and having "lipstick" pickups is as close as this one gets. ALSO, there was a 10% "restocking" fee ($29.90 - ouch) to return this unit to the seller.

FUN PLAYER WITH GOOD TONE
This reissue of an older model from the past that, was made by Danelectro, for Sears or Wards I believe, is a nice guitar worthy of every penny. The Danos are made with masonite board and bound on the edges with vinyl tape, This guitar by Silvertone, is an improved version, with a solid mahogany body and string through body like a Telecaster. Tuning is fantastic like a Tele also, with minimal string stretching needed after you change out the factory strings. Nice tone as well. Warm, and also, with some fiddling of knobs and things, and a slide it can get Jimmy Page's "In My Time of Dying" tone, that he got with the Danelectro. I would have given it five stars, but for some reason they have the truss rod access on the heel of the neck, instead of at the headstock. I removed the neck when I changed the strings and barely moved the truss nut. Action is nice , Fretwork is nice . Also, they have dual action truss rods which, I think is an improvement. For whom it may concern, I bought a Silvertone 1478 offset guitar from Zzounds that, I liked so much, I also bought the Red Burst color from Guitar Center, as well.If you like Offset guitars also ,check that model out. Amazon has the black Silvertone 1478 still, I believe . WM
