When winter rolls around, can i throw the snowball mic at people? how fast does it melt?

You do not need to wait for winter that is the beauty of the thing. Melting starts to happen about 338 degrees. Note it is about equal to taking that seriously ice-packed ball you packed tight when you were a kid, so throwing at people is likely to include injury, swears, or breaking things.

I usually have a fan running behind me, will the Snowball pick up the sound from the fan?

The Snowball has three settings on it. "1" puts the mic in cardioid mode and only picks up sounds from directly in front while blocking out sounds from the sides and back. "2" is the same thing, but made for recording lous sources as it puts a -10 decibel pad to keep the mic from overloading and distorting. "3" sets the mic in omni mode, which means it picks up sounds from all directions. So to answer the question, if the fan is blowing directly at the mic, it may pick it up. I also have a fan of to my side and never had issues with it.

Do I need to speak into this mic up close? Or will it work from 3 feet away?

If you're using it with Windows 8, 8.1, or 10 you will need third party software to boost the input signal. Distance from mic, within a few feet, doesn't seem to have a huge effect on voice volume.

Does anyone know how to turn off the little red light when the snowball mic is not in use?

Yep, all you have to do is extremely difficult, but don't worry I will walk you through it step by step. 1. Grab the solid part of the USB cord.2. Slowly, and I mean extremely slowly pull the cord out of the USB port, but be careful because if your palms are sweaty knees weak arms are heavy this will not work.3. Now if you were able to pull out the cord out of the USB port you should realize that now your microphone light is off. 4. Celebrate Rocky style on top of the steps!5. Lastly, give yourself a pat on the back knowing you successfully unplugged your microphone from your computer.
