81 hours from start to finish. It’s been a lot of fun, and I love the dragon quest references.
This game has been a lot of fun, and it never takes itself to seriously. The characters are three dimensional and have a lot of depth, and the story while still being the hero’s journey, is unique and went in a direction I didn’t expect. I can definitely sense inspiration from Persona 5 in some of the game mechanics, and it made the transition to getting a feel for this game much easier. The combat is fun and has depth, every move has unique motions and each character has a ton of moves. You’re not limited in your move set, which is really nice. If you’re looking for a fun, story driven JRPG with turn based combat, I’d highly recommend this. And while the combat is turn based, it doesn’t feel restrictive.Social links are done in a straightforward fashion, and they’re actually really well done and thought out. Every character has a unique and interesting backstory, and there own side stories that you can explore through advancing your friendship. The scenes were a lot longer than I anticipated too, this game is fun and polished.Right now it’s on sale for $30 and it’s a total steal for that price. I’ve played around 60 hours so far and it says I’m 73% done. I really have no complaints other than the mini map/map can be difficult to navigate at first. I also wish there was a way to go back and re-read the text of current conversations, but these are just nitpicks. This game starts slow, again pretty similar to Persona 5 in that respect. But it really picks up after the first 10 hours, and it continued to get better and better. Enjoy!Edit: After finishing the game I wanted to update this and add that while the ending has a satisfying ending, it does leave it somewhat open for a possible sequel in the future, which would have my support. At the very least maybe we could get some after story DLC, but who knows. I finished my play time at 81 hours. I really enjoyed spending time with these characters, and hope that we get to spend more time with them in future installments whether new games or new DLC. You can also free roam after you complete the game, and start a new game plus.(Second edit) 9/27/2023: They have announced a sequel game that involves Ichiban Kasuga (MC.) Not sure if the other main characters will be included, but I’m looking forward to continuing the story. All in all, I’d rate this game 9.5/10

An Unexpected, but Appreciated Change
I am a JRPG fan generally, but I also REALLY liked the format of all previous Yakuza games a lot and had gotten pretty accustomed to the series’ beatemup gameplay after going through the entire Yakuza lineup. This game gets it right. It’s a cool mix between your standard RPG and Yakuza’s expected quirks, and it feels great. The writing is incredibly solid and though it took me a minute as a diehard Kiryu fan, I have come to really love Ichi’s character as well as his crew of weird friends. There are also plenty of minigames and side content to explore (though the can collection game will give me a hernia if I play it again), really making this a fun and dense game as you can usually expect from Yakuza. This game is a MUST PLAY for anyone invested in the Yakuza series (even if you don’t usually like turnbased RPG), JRPG fans, or those who are interested in a game that expertly balances humor, wit, and emotional writing.

Best new JRPG I've played in a while.
Do you like Yakuza? Like Final Fantasy? Then this game is for you. The iconic Yakuza characters, world and story telling mixed with traditional Final Fantasy-esque turn based combat makes for an engaging and fun romp.I completed the game in around 100 hours and I enjoyed every bit of it. The game has the usual collection of Yakuza side activities, including a cart racing minigame. The post game content is a bit disappointing as the final dungeon requires all your party members to be max level in multiple job types which would involve dozens of hours of grinding. However, the main game has enough content that I felt okay with skipping the "ultimate" challenge dungeon and I didn't feel like I missed much.

Pure Yakuza Fun!
I’ll admit that I’m new to the Yakuza series. I’ve played the Shenmue games, but for some reason, never got around to playing any of the Yakuza games. I was in the mood for a new PS5 game, so I took a chance on this new entry in the series and I am so glad that I did! The story is fun and engaging. It has hilarious moments and emotional moments. The combat is turn based, yet has so many unique and cool functions that I’ve never seen in any other game. The graphics on PS5 are visually stunning and mesmerizing. From what I understand, “Like A Dragon” is kind of a reboot for the Yakuza series, so you don’t need to have prior knowledge of the series storyline to get into it. Definitely check this one out whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned fan.

Can't recommend this game enough!
While different from the prior Yakuza games, Yakuza: Like a Dragon offers a new twist on the Yakuza formula. The RPG-style turn-based combat was intuitive, and the lore explanations for the RPG elements (such as going to a job center to change your class, or characters transforming during combat due to Ichiban's hyperactive imagination) were a treat. The story kept me on my toes, and the minigames, as with prior installments, were incredibly fulfilling. For new and old fans, I'd recommend this game without a doubt!

Hilarious and Amazing!
This game (and the Yakuza series in general) is amazing! The storyline is rich and deep, developing characters and really putting you in a position to feel for them. The side quests (optional) are hilarious and I recommend trying to complete them all as they can assist you throughout the game. Although they officially changed the protagonist, Kiryu IS still in this game, but no spoilers. This game is the predecessor to Yakuza Infinite Wealth so if you want to understand the back story, I recommend playing this game first. That being said, you can play Infinite Wealth without playing this game and still be able to follow along
