A Bit Small for My Hand but Still Writes Nicely
After getting into Fountain Pens this year and starting with a Lamy Safari I really wanted to try a Sailor Pen. First I think the quality of this pen is nice, especially for its price. It writes smooth and ink flows nicely from it whether you are using Sailor refills or your own ink in a converter. For my personal experience though I found the pen a bit small for my large/x large hand. The Lamy Safari is just more comfortable in my hand. It’s not unbearable by any means and I can still get a nice grip on it, but I would caution anyone with a larger hand to maybe look at a different Sailor pen. If you are just starting out and have an average or smaller hand size I think this is a wonderful pen to start with. It’s not expensive and gets you a brand name fountain pen that writes smooth and is good quality.

Good
Decent quality - use a wetter ink for best results.

One of the best budget fountain pens available!
The basic Sailor fountain pens (Lecoule and the round ended version, which has several names depending on market) are fantastically reliable and exceptionally good writers. The only real shortcoming is that they are only available in a fine nib width, but if you're OK with a line between Japanese and European fine, then you owe it to yourself to try one! This edition is in a deep teal, with black chrome trim, I'm not usually a fan of black trim, but this color combo is great, it looks dark and subdued, not wannabe "tactical". So far my first Profit Jr. (Compass in US market) has been inked continuously for over 2 years, never flushed, often left unused for weeks at a time, but has never failed to write at the first touch... this is as good as fountain pens get as far as pure function goes, regardless of price! In comparison to my other modern Sailor pens, these steel nibs have all been smoother than the gold nibs, though firmer as well. Very highly recommended!!

Good Beginner Pen! Lots of leakage though, do not like
I initially loved writing with this, it was my first fountain pen, felt great for learning! I would highly recommend for those who have never used a fountain pen before. I soon upgraded to an $80 pen from Holtz Leather and although it is a medium nib, it is astronomically better than this pen. This cheap sailor does not seal well, resulting in an initial hard start to writing as the ink is dry; it also has a massive amount of leakage over time, I'm not totally sure of the cause of this, but I deliberately kept it point up when I was storing it and it still leaked. It seems to have been when the cartridge is getting low the pen starts to leak a lot. For this reason I take two stars away.

Great value for the money
I think these pense behave like a more expensive fountain pen. It is a really good value for the money.

Great entry to Sailor
This Sailor Demonstrator LeCoule is very good for the price point. Great ink flow just wet enough.
