Essential information for patients, about statin drugs
"Statin Drugs & Their Natural Alternatives" is a must read for anyone using statins or who may use them in the future. Even though prescribed by a doctor, statins are not always safe. They can result in many undesirable side effects. Doctors don't tell you about all the side effects when they prescribe statins, it's just easy for them to prescribe statin drugs so they do it. The dangers and consequences become the problem of the patient, not the doctor. Protect yourself by reading this book.

Drug alert
Very interesting info about statins. Read this alongside The Great Cholesterol Con by Malcolm Kendrick and you will have some insight into the possible downside of statin medication. One star knocked off because with these texts aimed at the general public by professionals it's always tricky for said general public (me for example) to assess their merits. So if your cholesterol isn't sky high and you have other health issues you might just not want to take them.....

Must-read!
This book is a must-read for those with high cholesterol. You really do have to be your own health advocate and not go only by what your doctor recommends. I agree with Dr. Cohen in that a lot of doctors are "in bed" with pharmaceutical companies and are given big perks to push their drugs at levels which aren't necessarily safe or effective.I have moderately-high hereditary cholesterol levels and have tried many statin drugs in the past - all with bad side-effects which exacerbated my fibromyalgia (muscle pain, weakness). After reading this book, I've quartered the statin pills my doctor gave me and have had no bad side effects. Saves money, too! Dr. Cohen's motto of "Start low and go slow" is good advice when it comes to statins.
