Excellent, fast, nifty fifty prime lens
Updated Review: The Rokinon/Samyang 50mm f1.4 AF lens for E-mount is an excellent tool. I have utilized it on various wedding jobs, proposals, personal work, and in various media work for the past 4 months. I shoot on other systems too but I have mostly used this lens for street photography, and professional work. These are my experiences and thoughts so far:The lens image quality is very interesting in a positive way. I love the sharpness wide open and stopped down that this Rokinon 50mm can produce. The f1.4 fast aperture also came in handy in so many low light situations. I use the A7III with this lens and even with that low light beast of a camera, you don't want to push your ISO's super high for pro work. The lens will probably need the Lens Manager Mount product that Rokinon/Samyang sells as well. You need to update it for improved AF speeds in low light and for when using strobes. The IQ is excellent. The Lens build quality is awesome as well, it is fully metal (not weather sealed) but feels like a tank. It will definitely last a long time because I have bumped my lens on the job a few times and has survived every event. The only downside to this lens is that it is front heavy on the A7III so it wears my hands down with fatigue halfway through the work day.The AF performance is a hit or miss situation. On Most occasions this lens performs admirably. It may not be top tier among the native Sony FE lenses but it can hold it's own. AF focusing through the A7III is quick and accurate. I was blown away by the details thanks to it's sharp accuracy this lens can achieve in super dim event photography and in broad daylight. There are moments in videography, however, that the continuous autofocus is not reliable at times. To circumvent this, I swapped to FLEXI-POINT AF on my camera or CENTER FOCUS POINT, instead of WIDE. Otherwise, it seems that the lens has difficulty in tracking and deciding what to focus on when moving, panning or doing parallax moves. Know the limitations of this 50mm and as long as your focusing in AF and MF is solid, and as long as you know your camera well, you should be able to overcome all inconveniences in this department.Overall, I have produced some of my best work thanks to this Rokinon 50mm f1.4 lens. It is a special tool in my bag that saved me a ton of money for images that clients can never tell apart from APS-C from Full Frame. This lens is more like a hidden ace up your sleeve on every occasion. The 50mm "normal" length is perfect for everyday photography for hobbyists and professionals alike. works good on a7iii
i read all the negative and not so good reveiws with this lens on a7 1 or a72, i think those models may not have the autfocus system the newer a7 line up has, this lens works good on my a7iii, i have the sony 50mm f1.8 and this lens works as good as that and has more depth of feild, focus fast in continuous focus, its not as quiet as the 35mm but i dont find it bad, if u do video with a mic it may be a problem but for me not a problem, nice lens

I really wanted to like this lens
The build is great, little heavy but well balance, and the picture quality on par with another expensive lenses. However the AF performance is plain bad. Does AF? Yes it does. Sharp? Yes it is. BUT is slow, hunts and miss half the time. I wanted to keep it and for the price is a bargain but it will be only good if you're shooting in studio slow and methodically or nothing that is moving much. Couldn't justify the purchase, had to return it.

Buy it for the Bokeh! A7iii owner review.
I bought this lens for my new A7iii for one main reason: The Bokeh! It's not the sharpest lens out there, and yes, it does have some flaws, but I still love the way it renders images. The photos taken with this lens have a very dreamy look to them, and the bokeh is quite amazing at this price point. Buy this lens if you want to take great portraits where you don't need to see microscopic skin detail, or as a landscape or general purpose lens. It's not going to win technical contests, but this lens can produce very artistic and dreamy portraits with creamy backgrounds, and that's all I expect from it.I bought it to take photos of my toddler, and it has definitely not disappointed. The Auto Focus issues are exaggerated. It's not the fastest focusing lens out there, but AF in continuous mode (AF-C) is reasonably fast and accurate, and definitely good enough to take photos of kids. Focusing is not dead silent, but it's not bad in AF-C. I didn't buy this lens to take videos, so motor noise in video isn't the biggest deal to me. I can always plug in an external mic if I decided to use this lens for videos at some point. My lens came with firmware version 32, which happens to be the latest firmware as of Jan 2019. The build quality is quite good. It's heavy, but smaller and lighter than my Rokinon 35mm 1.4. When I need the lightest and smallest 50mm lens for my A7iii, I grab my Sony 50mm 1.8 FE, which happens to be another great lens with a bad reputation. So set aside the negative reviews and enjoy this lens. You won't be disappointed!
