Heats up really quick
I'm really pleased with this purchase. I followed the manufacturers instructions prior to use and there is absolutely no hint of the "newness" smell some reviews have mentioned. The kettle heats up really quick and is perfectly designed for a slow even pour. I have no hesitation in recommending.

The heart of a first-rate pour-over coffee system, with all doubts resolved.
OK, first, we have a GE induction range, and this 1.2 liter kettle works perfectly on it. The part that is magnetic on the bottom (necessary for induction) is the rim around the edge on the bottom. The center of the bottom is not magnetic, but that doesn't matter, so the "magnet test" can be misleading, if you aren't putting the magnet in the right place.Second, the quality of the kettle's construction is great. The handle is sturdy and welded onto the body of the kettle securely at four points. There is no rust around the welds inside or out. The pouring spout is also securely welded with no leaks.Third, the temperature gauge is dead-on accurate, and even closely measures the room temperature, when not in use!Fourth, the lid stays securely on when pouring.Fifth, the pouring action is precisely controlled by the spout so you get just the right water volume over the grounds. I followed the instructions and filled the kettle to 80% full (to the bottom edge of the top ring--approximately 32 ounces/1 liter), put the kettle on my smallest induction eye on the rangetop, set the cooking temperature to "high" and the pot reached the 200 F mark (the trmperature you want for coffee (not boiliing) in almost exactly 4 minutes (I live at 3,000 feet, so yours may perform differently at lower or higher altitude).Since you don't want water to boil actively and squirt out of the spout, you have to do three things: 1. don't fill the kettle any more than 80% full; 2. set your timer on the range so that it alerts you when the kettle of water is close to boiling (just experiment with your first batch and note the time you start and the time you finish); and 3. Make sure you choose a small eye on your range-top, so that the handle of the kettle is not exposed to excessive heat (this isn't an issue with induction range-tops, but you should still use the smallest eye you can, because these ranges sense the size of the pot and sometimes won't work with pots that are too small). If you are using a gas stove, don't let the flame creep around the edge of the kettle and up the sides, because you might damage the handle and/or burn your hand. Finally, the temperature gauge didn't fall off or fog up and continues to work fine.I think I have addressed all the objections that other reviewers have raised about this kettle. If I have any problems in the future, I will update this review.Bottom line: I can tell you that the coffee I made (using this kettle, a Cafelissimo stainless steel filter, and the Smart Flask 32-oz/1-liter insulated flask, using medium/fine grind dark-medium roast blend organic, fair-trade coffee, ground in a simple Braun blade grinder) produced a wonderfully smooth and rich cup of coffee, with none of the acidic edge that used to accompany my French-press efforts. I assembled this entire system for well under $100 thanks to Amazon.com!

Gorgeous, High Quality Kettle
1. This kettle looks so beautiful on my stove I leave it there when I'm not using it rather than hiding it in the cupboards.2. The thermometer on the kettle makes it so easy to see how hot/close to boiling the water is.3. Precise performance. The spout on this kettle pours precisely and won't splash when boiling unlike other kettles I've used that will spill if you're not extremely careful.4. Solid craftsmanship, 5 cup capacity.

Awesome kettle, even better service!
I ordered this item because it was the kettle I was looking for to make coffee (pour overs, French press) and it was at a good price. The copper one looked cool in the picture, so that's the version I chose. When it arrived, I was impressed with the kettle as well as the packaging. It looks so great! Certainly it appears like I spent much more money on it. And it works really well. It warms water quickly and the thermometer is built-in, easy to read, and accurate. Great item. The company reached out to me and asked me if I was pleased, and I responded with a yes - except - the face of the thermometer was a bit scuffed up from shipping (it wasn't protected with a plastic film). I could still read the temperature, but it's the only constructive criticism I had for them. They apologized and immediately sent a replacement, even though I didn't ask for one.So, this company not only produces an excellent product for coffee lovers, but they are driven to serve customers with excellence. I'm very happy I made this purchase and expect to use my kettle(s) for a long time. :)

Great kettle with 1 significant defect
This would be five stars but for a significant design “safety” defect: the lid handle (the thermometer) that you grasp to remove the lid is set only 1/4 to 1/2 inch from lid (see photo above on 1/4 inch grid). The lid attaches tightly (good in general). So if you grasp lid to pull off when kettle is hot you burn yourself. Kettle holds approximately a quart/liter, so I have found myself doing that a lot. The first time I did it I really burned myself.Otherwise, the kettle is great. It is attractive, seems well constructed, pours perfectly and heats quickly—although not as quickly as an electric kettle. The base of the kettle is small, so on my Wolf stovetop I use medium-high heat. I usually heat the water in my electric kettle and then pour into this kettle. (Not terribly efficient, but it’s quick and if I pour it into the cold kettle it cools it to off boiling pretty quickly so I don’t have to monitor it). But it works well the traditional way.I use a Clever, so it’s more forgiving than a pour over. But I really love the way this kettle pours.I was worried that thermometer might not last since you pull it with lid to remove and place it down when you fill. But so far so good. It threads onto lid with a hex nut that attaches underneath lid. The nut loosens occasionally but it’s easy to tighten with pliers.I was impressed with the customer service response when I e-mailed BW to suggest a different lid design (more clearance or a non-conductive barrier on lid handle). But when writing this review I noticed that someone else complained about same thing 18 months ago and they haven’t fixed design.
