These seeds were so fresh. I used my spice grinder and made a powder that was fragrant, full of oils, and was amazing. I don't use cumin a lot, however, and so I closed the package with the zip (no special storage) and tucked it into a cupboard. That was in Nov of 2018. Today (Jan 2023) I needed more cumin powder, so I hauled out that bag of cumin seeds and wondered if they'd still be good. I mean, we're talking 5 years on the shelf. But, I whizzed up the first bit and the scent was strong. I emptied it, and there was still so much oils in the seeds that I had to gently whack the grinder to get it all out. I used it and the flavor was still excellent! These seeds were so fresh when I bought them that I just today used up the last of them and the last seed was as good as the first. You simply can't go wrong buying this.

Fresh and tasty
I never buy powder. I always grind it from seeds as it tastes better.

Versatile and Delicious Spice
Cumin is a staple in my spice pantry and indispensable in Southwest, Middle Eastern, Indian and even Southeast Asian cuisine. It’s wonderful in dry spice rubs because of the smoky tone it brings. It is also a key ingredient in commercial chili powder blends along with ancho chili. I buy seeds to roast and grind as needed because they stay fresh so much longer. These cumin seeds from Jiva are fresh and deeply fragrant. If stored in a cool dark shelf, they will keep easily for a year or more.

So aromatic as I saute this into a vegan tikki masala
This spice is fresh and delightful. I've never used cumin seed until now, I've only used cumin powder. I learned about this wonderful spice from Nisha Vora's youTube channel called RainbowPlantLife. Besides Nisha's skill in the kitchen, she has a wonderful instapot cookbook I bought on Amazon - "The Vegan Instant Pot Cookbook". Nisha uses cumin seed in many of her recipes. If you make her Tofu Cauliflower Tikka Masala, you will be very happy that you did. It starts with these cumin seeds sauteed in grape seed oil and gets better with every layer of flavor.
