wooDsom - The Original Premium Wooden Toaster Tongs (Hickory)

We were tired of burning our knuckles trying to fish small breads from our toaster with our shorter tongs. I don't expect much from new USA made products what with the necessary cost cutting to try to compete with imports, but WOW! These tongs are terrific. The tongs are wide enough on the sides that will be against the bread to hold anything I've tried securely and they are thin in the other direction, so they pick up anything with just a light squeeze, and I do mean anything, from bagels and focaccio to Ry-Vita (a thin crispbread) and Pita quarters. The thinness means they don't bang into grid wires inside the toaster slots -- with anything but breads so thick I probably shouldn't have tried to stuff them into the toaster anyway. They're very sensibly unfinished, they are indeed hickory -- the tough wood from which handles of professional quality knives are often made-- and the magnet is even stronger than that on the old tongs: the nearest steel surface to our toaster is the often problematical embossed surface of my refrigerator and the Woodsom tongs cling very securely. The tongs also came with a very nice follow-up letter from Woodson, to which it was possible to reply as an email reply or by using the link.

I bought these to replace toaster tongs I've had for forty years, before they were commercially available (my husband accidentally broke them). I chose these tongs because they're made in the USA, and are a single piece of wood instead of two glued pieces. I was pleasantly surprised when these arrived because they're beautiful and well-crafted, not just functional. The pattern of the wood is lovely, there are no rough edges and it's super easy to remove things from the toaster because the tongs are thinner at the tips. Why aren't all toaster tongs like that? I also love the mega-strong magnet embedded in the "hinge" end. I have my tongs attached to the side of the microwave, conveniently next to my toaster. Perfect! I expect these tongs to last for the rest of my life, barring any accidents. I highly recommend these tongs!

We were looking for wooden tongs that would not scratch up our ceramic waffle maker - looking to avoid teflon and plastics. The waffles are large enough that I was using a pair of plastic tongs and a plastic bowl scraper. This product fit the bill. I knew based on the waffle size that we would need two of them. Three features stood out to me. The wood was all one piece, so I did not have to worry about glue wearing out. Second, the magnet was a nice feature. When it arrived, I stuck it right to the side of the fridge, near the toaster. Third, it was made in the USA. I will pay a little more for a product that is made here in the USA, add in the magnet and the single piece construction and that made it worth the extra cost. I have not used it much yet, but exactly what I expected.

These are quite useful for avoiding burned fingers. They are not as long as some reviews made them sound... I wouldn't want them much shorter than they are. The magnet is very strong relative to the delicate wood of the tongs. I don't use the magnet 'cause I'm afraid of breaking the wood. My set came a little damaged -- as if someone had opened the box, handled the tongs a little roughly and then put them back in a little carelessly. Not enough to provoke a return but I considered it.

I just bought these tongs and after having worked in a kitchen specialty shop which sold bamboo toaster tongs, which did not seem very durable, these set the bar very high for competitors. I know that toaster tongs are not major players in your kitchen, but having read numerous negative reviews on Amazon about numerous bamboo tongs falling apart after one or two uses, these are the way to go, folks. They are surprisingly flexible because of the unique design. They are made out of carved hickory and are quite lovely. You can "pick up a car" with the incredibly strong magnet at the top :) It takes little or no effort to squeeze these to grab your toast.( I am a senior citizen) I washed them. Let them dry thoroughly and oiled them with bamboo oil. These are pretty much a no brainer purchase and I love supporting companies in the US! Great job Woodsom!

I have rheumatoid arthritis and have read reviews that some other tongs were difficult to open and close. A quick scan at the reviews of various tongs yielded this one. It does cost a bit more but it is flawlessly crafted. Even during a rheumatoid arthritis flare in my wrists and hands I can operate these tongs! The tongs are nicely finished, much care a has been put into crafting these tongs. They are functional, beautiful and simply work. You definitely get what you pay for.

Overall this is a decent item. The wood feels sophisticated and is sanded well. Love the magnet on the side. But the one issue I have is that the tongs don't open and close very much- not as "Tongy" as I was hoping. Its a little tough to get a normal size bread slice or English muffin in the grip of the tongs. Its still better than using my fingertips though!

Easy to use, excellent quality, an essential in the kitchen tool.
