Hard cover, good quality
This is to be given as a gift. Received very quickly, so poured over the book and am tempted to order one for our house. Jenn Segal (the author) offers up doable, tempting recipes that are easy to assemble with a photo for every recipe. No, there are no calorie, fat, carb numbers; if that is important, it is something to consider. Looking through, there are many dishes we do, yet I appreciate Jenn Segal's tips. Our friend who is being given the book is a fan. She made a recipe from J.S's blog site and wrote to ask a question which J.S. responded to. I think these are the chefs/cooks we should support. Apart from that, it is a beautifully executed cook book.

A cooking book packed with delicious recipes
My mother, sisters and I have been huge fans of Jen’s talent for years. My younger sister introduced me to her blog packed with delicious recipes, which always turn out well. My husband and children are also big fans of Jen’s recipes, which I whip up frequently. Jen is such a lovely lady and always takes the time to respond to questions. A real gem of a cook and lady! Please do not hesitate buying this book if you are not familiar with Jen’s recipes. You are in for a treat! If you are familiar with Jen’s blog, you will love having her book on your cooking shelf! Thank you Jen!

Exceptional cookbook
This is a very high quality cookbook with stunning photos -- an incredible bargain and sooooo much more than you would expect for the absurdly low price of $18. I was happy and plenty busy with the recipes on the OnceUponAChef.com site, and basically bought the book to support Jenn Segal's work, but now that I have the book, I'm glad I purchased it.Relative to most other cookbooks, there are four really cool aspects of this one:1. The dishes are things you actually want to eat. The book has absolutely no "Squid souffle with vegemite truffles" sort of nonsense, or whole chapters about game birds that no one in America eats outside of a hunting lodge. The book gives you recipes for things you'd be happy to eat at your next meal, like crab cakes and Buffalo chicken kabobs. There's a pleasant lack of pretentiousness in the selections. That said, the recipes aren't downmarket at all; they hit a nice sweet spot of upscale, creative, practical, and stuff a family would want to eat.2. The recipes are simple, clearly written, and tell you everything you need to know to prepare the food. I'm yet to hit a recipe that left me confused or feeling like I couldn't do it, and I'm just an intermediate home chef, certainly not an expert or a professional.3. The recipes use common ingredients that most people already have on hand. Worst case, you may have to drop by the grocery to pick up a few items. There's a blessed absence of recipes calling for exotic ingredients that can't easily be acquired (or pronounced).4. It's easy to tell that the recipes have been tested and fine-tuned. That's not to say you won't improvise and take them in your own direction, of course you will, but these are tested recipes, not experimental whimsies. If Jenn says "use 2 tbsp of sugar" you may decide you like 3 tbsp better, but 2 tbsp will work just fine. The recipes are very reliable. If you follow the recipes, you will end up with dishes that look just like the pictures in the book, impress your friends, and feel like you accomplished something.
