Love, Love London Lilac
I have had purple hair for a long time and tried most of what is out there, enduring the mess, the staining and the time spent under a dryer to set the color. Then I found this-easy color in a box YAY! First time I applied it over my newly dyed dark blonde (with gray) hair. Ever since Manic Panic left me with purple ears I coat my neck, ears and the skin along my hairline with conditioner. I used the applicator tip and a brush to first cover my hairline all around, my side part and crown. Then I separated my hair into 3 layers and spread color on each one. The dye was a pinkish color and had an ammonia smell to it and was warm on my scalp but the one bottle covered all of my thick, shoulder length hair. I waited about 35 mins, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, conditioned and dried my hair. The finished color was darker on top, almost back-purple with an ashy purple on the bottom third. I'm OK with that because my hair does sometimes take color unevenly. After about 6 weeks I colored it again, leaving it on for a total of 35 mins, 20 on the roots, color on tbe rest for another 15. The color was even this time and looks rich. I've gotten a lot of comments and compliments about it-all positive. This is my first time using a permanent color and I expect to need a touch up every 4-6 weeks, which is fine with me. Great color, easy to use, not smelly, I love it! Update: It appears this color has been discontinued. The big box chains no longer carry it and here on Amazon there is little to be found and the price is triple or more. I usually buy 4 at a time, now I need a new product.

Back to my go-to brand after years of experimenting
I used to use this brand regularly, but in the stellar Runway Red shade. Years later, after unsuccessfully trying blonde and a plethora of of other colors, I decided I needed to do purple. I have naturally dark hair, so I did hit it a with lightening process first which resulted in a brassy shade of strawberry blonde before application of this shade (5VR). The formula is excellent, easy to use, but the smell made my eyes water quite a bit to be honest. It saturated surprisingly well and after first wash out, I had a nearly black shade of purple (pictures of both fresh and current results attached). Upon gentle washing over a couple weeks, any leftover excess was washed out and I ended up with a vibrant, saturated pure purple. The color "stay" estimate is about up to eight weeks, and it's way past that and the color is holding fast with cool water rinses and a weekly color safe conditioner treatment for hair health. From freshly applied to now, over two months later, I experienced no color bleeding on pillows, towels, or even just from sweating. The bottom line: turned out (for me) much more vibrant than expected from box images (I expected brown with a hint of purple, but this is anime character level deep purple), stays in hair spectacularly (I see no need to touch up any time soon), and was one of the rare color dyes that didn't aggravate my sensitive scalp. Overall, I'm very pleased.

Finally! A PERMANENT Purple Hair Dye!
I love this! Have dyed my hair purple semi-regularly for many years. Always had to use semi-permanent brands like Manic Panic or Punky Colors, which wash out too quickly. They also are pain in that they stain towels and pillow cases every time your hair is damp. Was very excited to see an established brand of hair color that comes in funky colors, and most importantly is permanent! I bought it as soon as I saw it and applied it a few days ago. I always bleach my hair before applying the purple, because I want the purple to be very vibrant. It came out well. A few streaks, but that's probably because I had some old henna-based dye lingering in my hair. (I had to attend a business training where purple hair is frowned upon. Boo!) The product was easy to apply. It didn't stain the skin on my forehead, around my ears, or my neck. (Woo! No Vaseline required!) The conditioner that comes with it works well. Really pleased with the results. I hope that Vidal Sassoon continues to make these fun colors so that I never have to revert back to semi-permanent dyes again. If you have really thick hair, or lots of hair, definitely use two boxes to start. Then you can use one box at a time to touch up your roots thereafter!

Comes out dark grape-black over previously bright red dyed hair, then faded to a beautiful shade of medium purple.
I used this over my previously dyed (bright( red hair and about an inch of regrowth (mousy brown with 20% grey). The result I got was a deep, almost black purple. Like a dark grape. It was a bit of an adjustment for me to get used to since I was a much lighter/brighter color for a long while. The first two or three days I had some staining to the scalp and I had a more goth look than I probably would like at my age. But, with a week or so, as the color slowly washed out, it became a striking but oddly enough still "natural" shade of purple. I don't know why this is labeled lilac, because it doesn't look remotely lilac, especially on the box. Lilac is more of a light pastel purple. However, since the box shows more of a plum shade, I was pleasantly surprised when this had more of a deep grapey color on me. The lighter I got, the more compliments I received. For myself, it looked best around day 30. I'm about 60 days in and it still looks pretty good. This is probably because I've been dying my hair of over 25 years and all the processing causes it to suck in color easily. I will be ordering this color again and probably trying at least one of the other VS purple shades.

The Best Purple I've Found
I hate wash out dyes as they stain way too much. This stuff gives a real purple shade which is hard to find in regular dye. It does fade a bit over time, but it just gets lighter & lighter purple. I've gotten soooo many compliments. Even when I'm due to dye again, people say "it's cool that it just looks ombre instead of ready for a touch up" & they're right. I'd have to go 4 or 5 months before it'd start to look "overdue". I recommend this brand in London Lilac for anyone looking for bright purple hair.

So happy it is back in stock. Love this color!!
I have been looking for this brand of hair dye for ever!!! They stopped selling it almost in every store where I live. So I was very happy when I found it here on amazon. I had dark brown hair and I used one box resulting in my hair looking like velvet color. After the second box it looked like the picture. Which I was very pleased with. It does last a little bit longer than other dyes I had tried. A tip to conserve the color would be to use dry shampoo so it doesn’t wash out quickly.

Love my London Lilac Hair!!
As I have gotten older, I have also gotten braver and experimenting with colors I would not get into when younger. I wanted to try something different but at least a bit subtle enough to be able to walk into a meeting without having all eyes gawking at me (which really would not bother me at all). Well, I love the color. I colored it (without bleaching) over a dark red dye and it first turned out a dark purplish red. It was not exactly the color but it was nice. Now, that I have been re-dyeing my hair for the third time, it turns out a nice lilac. It is a bit darker than what you see in the box but the color goes "bam" when you are in the sun. It is super obvious in the sun. The smell of the dye is bad but honestly not as awful as others and one negative is that it bleeds a lot!! It might not bleed so much if I wash my hair in cold water (as I read online) and if I don't wash it everyday but I am a stickler about washing my hair everyday. Also, due to this bleeding, I recommend that you place a dark towel on your pillow if you go to bed with you hair damp. I see that this bleeding happens also with other brands and with colors such as red so I don't really want to take off too many points off this product because I really enjoy the color. In fact, I tried to have a hairdresser duplicate it and I was not pleased with the results $100.00 after. So, I went back to my lovely London Lilac. I would love for Vidal to make a color a little bit more purply..... I am sure it would be a hot seller.
