I’d give this TEN STARS if I could! Best book I’ve read this year!
A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World is a book that grabs you from the very first page. I was intrigued to know how Griz ending up living in an island of the coast of Scotland in a world that was unrecognisable to me. What had happened to the population and why? This is touched upon but really this is just the story of a boy and his dog and the lengths that we go to for our dearest, most trusted companions. It is an apocalyptic odyssey about family, set in a dangerous world that’s very far removed from the one that we understand or is it? It’s a constant struggle for survival and the journey that Griz takes is heartbreaking but also heartwarming at the same time! We recognise places and things that are commonplace in our world but that have now become an oddity in this survivors lifestyle. There’s an innocence to Griz that contrasts with the world that exists away from the safety of the family island and the way in which this is explored evoked many emotions in me. It’s just such a sumptuous book from start to finish! It is beautifully written with unexpected twists (no I didn’t see them coming!) that felt so organically evolved they made me cry! And I just loved the way the narrative presented them. In fact as soon as I finished the last sentence, I wanted to go back to the start and read it all over again.Charmingly told by a character that you will struggle to get out of your head, A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World is a triumph of originality. And just writing this review has once again stirred those emotions I felt whilst reading it. Loved it, loved it, LOVED IT!!Very highly recommended by me!

One of my All Time Top Favs
I'm so glad I purchased this book instead of borrowing it from the library because now I need to re-read it after getting to the end and discovering the secrets!! The book was a great read from beginning to end, fantastic characters and plot twists. I was glad it was so long because I never wanted it to end. Highly recommend. Trigger warning for animal cruelty but fret not all animals end up alive and well.

You'll love this...
This is a can't-out-down book, at least for me it was. I rarely read fiction and am usually a little wary when I get a non-fiction book. I'd rank this as one of the better science fiction books I've read over the years. To me the sign of a well written book is one in which you can take the story and then form a world around the words so that your mind takes over and the book guides you where it wants to go. Boy, did this book to that! The story is about a young boy alive after the "gelding' when humanity becomes incapable of reproduction and is going extinct. A stranger in a boat comes to their island and steals one of his 2 dogs. The story is about his travels to get his dog back. The ending has an excellent twist. That summary doesn't even come close to doing justice to the book so just take my word on it. You'll be glad you did.
