Gripping read
If you enjoy crime and investigation type reads and series, then this is for you. Very gripping and well written. Such a realistic story as well. A bit of an emotional rollercoaster but well worth it. Will re-read many times over again.

Awful book
I was so excited to read this book, but I am left feeling utterly disappointed and dissatisfied in the story. I don’t understand why it has such good reviews. It is certainly a book that I regret wasting my money on and time reading.I found the story hard to read, it is dull and could have been a much more interesting story. The characters have no depth to them at all. How boring it is to read that the boy is found and is a mute for hundreds of pages until he speaks towards the end of the book. Even when he is being interviewed by the police it is boring. The book is depressing towards the end as well *spoiler* was there any need to kill off both grandparents? Why was this necessary in a story that I thought would be about how the boy is happy to be home and reconnected with his parents after being abducted. What is the point in this book? It also has far too many long and useless descriptions of people or what they are doing that it just seems to drag on and on and on. This certainly is not a thriller as it lacks suspense and action. Will not want to read books by this author ever again!

Just not very good...
I’m really confused by these 5 star reviews - I found this poorly written, with inane dialogue and clunky storytelling. Some of the police language is so cliched. No real character depth (perhaps with the exception of Jack, but still not great). I read to the end as I hate giving up on books, but just.... meh....

Meandering and unnecessarily pedestrian writing style - spoils whatever story there is
Really surprised at the positive reviews about this book. A strange writing style that I just can’t cope with - lots of unnecessary descriptions of random people and actions - poor grammar and word-choice. As though written in English as a second language.Really tried to persevere but gave up two-thirds of the way through - the style just got more annoying and the story (such as it is) isn’t at all well told. I’m an avid reader so maybe it’s just a case of at last finding a style that’s never for me.

Dry, dull and not thrilling
If I could have given this half a star then I would have. I bought this on the premise of it being a thriller and a page turner. I was thoroughly disappointed. He was lost and found within a couple chapters but the whole story of what happened was elongated beyond belief. I found myself skimming large sections because the plot was dull, dry and not particularly thrilling. There were so many side plots going on that were not fully developed. I was expecting something utterly horrific to have happened but, we did not learn the full extend. Yes, the book focused on the boys emotions but the linguistic style was basic, sentence construction was simplistic and the descriptions nothing remotely existing. I have read better stories from a 10 year old, full of suspense and twists. I am so disappointed in this book, I could not wait for it to find. If you want a real thriller I suggest No One Home, The Family Upstairs or The Woman in the Window, but please do not waste your time or money reading this. I wanted to go on rollercoaster of emotions. I wanted to be immersed and lost between the pages. Instead, I was felt feeling that this was one of the blandest books I had ever read. I refuse to even pass this onto a friend. Deeply disappointed.

Ending was a let down
This is only my opinion.I have to say I was gripped by this book and found it difficult to put down...... Until the ending. As the story unfolds you can tell the writer has done their homework with how the case would unfold and you feel the emotion of the parents while you start to peice together the evidence. But then, at the end, its like the author was in a rush to wrap the story up and it ends quite untidily as if time had run out to finish the story in more of a 'matter of fact way'.As I said earlier, this is just my opinion. Having read through the book I had hoped it would finish on the high it started on and continued through to the end.I'm not giving any of the plot away, you can make your own mind up but it's definitely worth a read, just don't expect too much with the ending.
