Simple and effective deep tissue release
The last few years I’ve experimented with different myofascial release tools for tension and pain reduction. The SOMA hard muscle roller is a winner for getting to hard to reach and deep spots in the back, hips and thighs effectively and quickly. The dual rubber rollers are small and firm so can reach those tight spots, and they are adjustable. I have been teaching Pilates for several years and all of my clients, and myself, have muscle tension in some part of our bodies. Using the SOMA tools, like the SOMA muscle roller, before a workout helps relax the tension and allow us to move more freely and fully. I find that I can get a more effective and faster release on the upper leg (side, back and front) using the muscle roller than with a large foam roller or a ball. The last few years, I’ve experienced back tightness and pain intermittently. I’ve found the SOMA muscle roller to be very effective in helping me find and release the tight spots when I am lying on the floor and the roller is under my back. My back felt relaxed and free feeling after using the muscle rollers for only a week. Sometimes, I’ll use two muscle rollers under my back, one above the other. I have the slightly softer SOMA muscle roller too (the orange one). When using the rollers under the back, I lie on the floor with knees up and feet on the floor. I start with the rollers under the low back, then move up the back. First, I lie still over the rollers, then allow the torso to rock slightly forward and back and side to side, with pelvis down and then lifted slightly. Sometimes I place the SOMA small foam roller under my head for support. If I rock my torso forward and back, the head rocks on the foam roller and the neck gets a release too. When I get to the upper back, I like to use both muscle rollers together, without head support, so that the exercise allows for both myofascial release and thoracic (upper back) extension.

helpful, if incredibly firm, erector spinae massage tool!
this tool is a bit on the firm side (the blue one) and is one of those rare tools that actually access the erector muscles very close to the spine in the way that therapy balls cant quite get to. The inventor of these is a good man, has friendly instructional videos (which I wish had some close ups), and some of the profits go to serve Ukrainian soldiers who have been traumatized by the conflict with the Russians. If for this last reason alone, I'd add these to your therapeutic repertoire!

Much better than a lacrosse ball
I got this to target errector spinae muscles, and for that purpose this is a excellent product, although care must be taken to ensure you do not injure yourself. The supplier provides videos with treatment suggestions, although I prefer to use this intuitively. Because there are two contact points and this is wheel shaped, I experience much more stability and control than I get with a lacrosse ball. Additionally, I think I am able to target muscles better because one wheel can be where I have a knot, and the other provides support.Anyway, the blue wheels are firm with little give, but they are grippy. The entire apparatus is sturdy and well made. It allows me to take myofascial treatment into my own hands, and has already paid for itself. Recommended to anyone who suffers back or neck pains.

The Muscle Roller (Hard) is a wonderful piece of equipment
The Muscle Roller (Hard) is a wonderful piece of equipment. Good quality, sturdy, compact and I love the traction the blue ends have. The ends are rubber with small nodules. It targets the soft tissue/muscles really well. The distance between the two ends are great for targeting the sides of the feet, the sides of the spine and near the base of the neck. The two ends are adjustable, so it allows for any adjustments needed when working with different areas of the body. Best of all, the SOMA SYSTEM website has tons of great information and other products that can help release tightness and increase mobility in your body.

Perfect size and firmness for working out the kinks!
The first time I used this high quality self massage tool I was hooked! I've used a variety of foam rollers to alleviate neck and back tension with some success but nothing came close to this! Very focused and just the right texture and firmness. I got and nice adjustment in my ribs and thorassic spine the very first time I used it, so satisfying. I really like utilizing the muscle roller on my forearms as well. It's helps to break up adhesions and relieve tension. I highly recommend it.

Just ok, get a lacrosse ball instead....
Not the best toy for the job. It's a little weird shaped and I prefer just using a lacrosse ball. They did send a 100 page PDF that shows all kinds of things you can waste your time on...

Adjustable Peanut Massage Ball
Like the Orange peanut massage ball, the best feature of this tool is that it's adjustable, accommodating those with a small frame as well as those with a large frame. Simply slide the massage balls to the perfect position to best release tension for your client. Most of my female clients prefer the softer orange roller, while the men prefer the firmer blue massage ball peanut. As a trainer, it's nice to have the perfect tool for each client, all in one set.
