Does what it says
There are many versions of this available and when I bought it, this version was the cheapest. Paid < 20 thru Hugo's.Product itself is excellent and lives well beyond weeks. I use it regularly, clean it every time in a dishwasher with steam dry, and cut everything from onions, carrots, mushrooms to avocados. Does not work well with mushy vegetables like tomato, as others have noted. There is only one fixed blade with this variant that cuts 6 mm square pieces of the thing u put in. Requires some force but definitely not as much effort as is required in manually cutting using a knife. Highly recommended for average to expert cooks to save time.

Very good, not great Vegetable Chopper (probably Great Onion Chopper)
Well-designed chopper mis-labled as an "onion" chopper - for me, it chops squash, cucumbers, peppers, better labled a "veggie chopper." Comes with a solution to an otherwise hard to clean area - the pegs on the green top which force the vegetable through the blades; the spaces between these pegs clean up easily with what looks like a "scawny fingers" instrument which reaches between the pegs to scrape out the stubborn vegetable pieces. Downside 1 - both the feet and clear plastic bottom seem fragile, not sure how much pounding they'll endure before I start losing feet/cracking the plastic bottom, will not experiment using truly rigid vegetables such as a carrot for fear of breakage; downside 2 - should have better cleaning instructions CLEAN THE BOTTOM USING DISH SOAP - the bottom may appear clear after a hot water wash but is actually coated with vegetable oils which will degenerate over time. Overally, very good kitchen tool for keeping supply of diced vegetables handy or quickly preparing them.

Best chopper I've used
I have gone through two of these now, and even with the weak spot on the hinge, I keep coming back to it. I've tried others and they mush my soft fruits/veggies (tomatoes, mangoes, peaches) too much. I do use it heavily (constantly when canning in the fall, at least 2-3 times per month the rest of the year), so eventually they do break. I did notice this most recent one has thicker plastic around the hinge post, so maybe it will last longer. Just don't put in something super thick, especially if it's a hard veggie. Onions seem to be the worst. I cut mine smaller (in quarters instead of halves) and I separate the layers so that there are only 2-3, or maybe even singly for the outer two layers. Just be gentle :-) But even with separating the layers, it's still faster than dicing by hand, especially when you are canning 24 pints of salsa!

Useful, with caution
This is my fourth one of these items. Be careful not to try to chop pieces that are too large. This can crack the clear bottom where the hinges are. There should have been more or stronger plastic there to reinforce or perhaps an aluminum bottom would have worked better. However, if you use the correct size pieces (the instructions warn of this) the chopper can be a real time saver.

The chopper you have to have
I have replaced this chopper about 3 times in ten years. It's that great. It takes an hour long job and turns it into a 5 minute job! It's indispensable for salads and everyday onion chopping. Now for the downside, it has a structural flaw...The nobs on the end where the lid attaches are the weak point. If it's going to break, it'll be there. However, I have put this thing through it's paces many times and it keeps plugging along.

Makes cutting veggies a breeze!
Works great for onions, carrots, celery, apples and pretty much any crisp firm fruit or vegetable properly cut to size. Use two hands when pushing down on the green cover (one in front by the round part and one in back by the hinges) for best results. Only cuts one size which I would say is medium, not too fine, not too course. Comes with a tool to clean the stuff that gets stuck in the cutting parts, which is a great idea, but you have to do this before you put in the dishwasher. My dishwasher won't get it out, but it cleans up great if you use the tool. Very good value!

The blades seem dull, anyway
I rarely review these things, but I was so totally unimpressed that I had to give my two cents. The blades seem dull, anyway, it was difficult to get it to chop. (I ended up actually SITTING on it!) You have to cut the onion into such small pieces that you might as well end up go ahead and chop by hand. Difficult to get the pieces of onion out of the chopper blade (Yes, even with the attached tool.) And the lid kept falling on my hand while I was trying to get the onion pieces out. It's not heavy, but it still hurt and was very annoying.Of course it's probably going to be too much trouble to return, so I'm stuck.

Excellent
This is a fantastic time saver.Use common sense and realize it’s not a heavy duty stainless steel item and don’t try to jam a huge onion in there. This has its limitations... no problems putting in half an onion at a time and “poof” instantly diced. There’s people who try to toss in a massive onion and then it breaks , well not surprised. A little common sense goes a long way and this is a great tool for the price.5 stars !

Simple and efficient
Works well and is easy to clean. As said by others, cut onions in half before using. The cut isn't a smooth action like a knife, but instead is an instant "crack" when enough pressure is applied which forces the onion through the grate very quickly. Quite satisfying!
