Good grief? No! GREAT MOVIE!!!
WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERSI've been a HUGE fan of the Peanuts comic strips for decades and so has my wife, so when this movie came out we went to see it in the theater. We really didn't know what to expect but we hoped to see The Peanuts Gang in all their glory, each member with their own individual quirks, and maybe some of the old but favorite Schulz gags. This movie did not fail to disappoint on any level.I knew it was going to be good 20 seconds into the movie. The 20th Century Fox logo comes up, you hear the drum roll, and then (perhaps unexpectedly) you hear the musical fanfare being played on piano. As the logo spins around, you see Schroeder playing the fanfare. VERY clever.According to the special features, they based the appearance of the characters on the circa 1980's Peanuts comic strips. It's readily apparent the animators went into painstaking detail to get the look right -- and to bring a three-dimensional look to them. It worked. You really can see the Peanuts characters "coming to life" in this movie. You can also see the amount of work that went into getting the backgrounds looking right. In short, the visuals are fantastic. The storyline starts with a "snow day" where the Peanuts Gang goes out to play hockey -- except for Charlie Brown, of course. He decides to fly his kite. Hey, the kite-eating-tree has lost all its leaves and is hibernating for the winter, so it makes sense in a Charlie Brown way, right? The story then continues through the school year and ends on the day class is released for summer vacation. Along the way, you see Charlie Brown weave his way through numerous situations (and numerous foibles) as he vies for the attention of The Little Red Haired Girl, who moved into town on that "snow day" where the story starts -- but we don't find that out right away, of course...The best part of this movie is we get to see Snoopy in action as The World War I Flying Ace. They devoted an entire back-story to this premise, and yes, we get to see the dog house (a.k.a. Sopwith Camel) fly. We get to see Snoopy attempt to romance Fifi (who flies an actual plane), get into dogfights with The Red Baron (GREAT action scenes) and we also get to see Snoopy save the day and rescue the girl -- along with some help from Woodstock and his bird pals.As for the Charlie Brown storyline, we see Snoopy try to teach Charlie Brown practicing magic for a talent show and learning how to dance (HILARIOUS bit where Snoopy does the Flamenco and Charlie Brown responds with The Chicken Dance), we see Charlie Brown get the highest score on the yearly standardized test -- or so it seems, we see him pull an all-nighter doing a book report by himself because his partner -- The Little Red Haired Girl -- had to leave town due to a family emergency, and of course there are some great classic bits of Charlie Brown getting shellacked while playing baseball and trying to fly his kite. What's not to like? Well, some people have written less-than-praiseful reviews because -- SPOILER ALERT -- Charlie Brown gets The Little Red Haired Girl (she volunteers to be his pen-pal over summer vacation). Apparently this rubbed a lot of Peanuts fans the wrong way because they believe Charlie Brown is and always should be a perpetual loser. Some have even given the opinion that the movie falls in line with the new-age thinking "Everyone is a winner" so the producers HAD to make Charlie Brown win in the end.I would say the people giving these opinions have really missed a significant point in this movie. Yes, Charlie Brown has more than his share of stupendous screw-ups throughout the course of the movie, but he demonstrates a lot of positive qualities like honesty, integrity, giving his best effort for the team, putting others before himself, etc. THESE are the things that The Little Red Haired Girl liked about Charlie Brown. Is that a bad thing? Don't you think there's a valuable lesson for children there? In short, if you're like me and my wife and still enjoy watching the Peanuts holiday specials, you're going to LOVE The Peanuts Movie. If you have children, this is a very good, very wholesome movie with a few things that might be mildly scary but usually have a comedic payoff. So I think it's safe to say this movie has something for everyone -- except the people who get sour grapes over anything good happening to Charlie Brown...

Peanuts in 4k looks absolutely astonishing! What a welcome surprise!
If you are fan of the Peanuts TV specials, The Peanuts Movie is a very similarly paced production made for the big screen. All the Peanuts characters are there, from Snoopy, Woodstock and Charlie Brown to Linus, Lucy and Schroeder (even the little red haired girl makes an appearance)--all of our favorites are there to be found in this warm and likable film. The 2D animation of the TV specials has been replaced with 3D CGI from Blue Sky Studios designed to be very cleverly reminiscent of it.Pleasant and enjoyable, this movie will not stretch the boundaries of film making, but will leave you with a warm, comforting feeling of nostalgia inside--which Is probably all the filmmakers ever really intended. No car chases, gun battles, laser blasts, explosions, etc. are to be found in this new family film (other than Snoopy's WW1 flying ace's continuing imaginary battles with his fantasy arch nemesis, the Red Baron, of course). This is the same Peanuts we've known and loved for years.I cannot fail to make note of the unexpected fact that the picture quality on the 4K Blu-ray is, rather surprisingly, absolutely astonishing! The HDR encoding adds plenty of extra "pop" and "sizzle" to the sparkling looking 4K image; "pop" and "sizzle" which simply isn't to be found on the regular bluray version. For me, the remarkable upgrade was well worth the small additional investment in the 4K Blu-ray over the standard high definition version. Now, I certainly do realize that The Peanuts Movie is not the kind of title that ordinarily comes to mind when most people think of 4K blu-ray, but the 4K disc really does look fantastic! There's a warm glow to the image imparted by the HDR encoding on the 4K version that doesn't come through the same way on the standard high definition disc. I honestly wasn't expecting to see anything close to such a noteworthy improvement in the 4K version of this film. What a very happy surprise it turned out to be!Returning to the subject of the actual film itself:I'm a long time Peanuts fan (over 40 years) and this was The Peanuts Movie I was expecting to see.Think of it as a 92 minute Peanuts TV special with all the usual heart, but with great 4K visuals thrown in for good measure, and you won't be disappointed in the least. This is Peanuts, and you pretty much know what you'll be getting with a Peanuts film--and in that regard, my own feeling is that it delivered very nicely. If you are a Peanuts fan like myself, I think you'll really enjoy this film. As I've said, I've been a fan for over 40 years and I, myself, had a good time watching it.And, if you happen to have a 4K blu-ray player and a 4K TV with HDR, I strongly recommend picking up the 4K version of The Peanuts Movie over the ordinary HD Blu-ray version--the improvement in picture quality is well worth the small additional investment.I recommend The Peanuts Movie to any long time fan of the Peanuts characters and/or the Peanuts TV specials. It's loaded with plenty of the same good things we've all known and loved throughout the years from Mr. Shultz' beloved Peanuts characters.

Simply “Wow”
I have 1 word to describe this movie. That word is “wow!” I do not have any ultra-HD devices (that I know of); but, I did not need that. The message within the movie is powerful enough. I felt that I could relate to a decent amount of it. I could not stop feeling bad for Charlie Brown and Pig-Pen. Charlie Brown’s life represents the common “Why me?” or “Why always me?” feelings. The red-haired girl reminds us about how we have worth that far exceeds what we see. Although our sense of self-worth might feel “in the dumps” or “in the toilet,” our worth to others generally goes unnoticed. Although the timing of my order was not when I intended it, I am glad that it happened, even if only by accident. It was what we, as humankind, perceive as “an accident.” But, despite some words that I do not care so much for (notably a word beginning with R, ending with L, and containing the common abbreviation for Electronic Arts sandwiched between them), the message was quite touching for me. I do strongly encourage the watching of this movie and will give a warning that it is a tearjerker (especially when Charlie Brown does talk with the little red-haired girl). I teared up during that. This movie deserves a quantity of stars that, if stacked, reached to the stars. 🤣 Oh, with regard to Pig-Pen (as I mentioned him, but went no further, oops), he reminds me of Casper the Friendly Ghost. He simply desires to have friends and be friendly to people; but, some others do not desire to be around him because he smells bad. This is similar to how most people are scared away by Casper’s presence simply because he is a ghost. The girl who wanted to dance with Pig-Pen is also a reminder of our oft unseen worth to other people.

A boy named Charlie Brown
Classic cartoon strip Peanuts had four animated movies and quite a few tv specials in the past. Now it returns with an all new feature film version, in a modern animation style. The plotting is as before. Charlie Brown can't succeed at anything. No matter how hard he tries. But smitten with new classmate, the little Red Haired girl, he's determined to change and become a winner. Meantime, Snoopy tells us the story of the daring World War one flying ace having to fight the Red Baron in order to win the love of his life.Peanuts hasn't had much of a media presence in a while. The last film being decades ago. And the tv specials, once a perennial of the children's programming on the bbc haven't been seen here in a long time. But what a feature film version of an old favourite needs to do in order to succeed is to recapture what made the original work in the first place. And in that respect, this is a complete and utter success. The animation may be modern, but it's really quite eye catching and it does somehow manage to update the original style and yet keep it just right at the same time. It's clever animation as well, adding in lots of little bits in different styles when the movie requires. The plot may be nothing Peanuts hasn't done before, but it does it right. The characterisation is spot on. The voices are just right. The attention to detail with those is such that Snoopy and Woodstock's voices are archive clips of the Late Bill Melendez, who did them back in the day. And the script, written by Peanuts creator Charles Schulz's son, is perfect Peanuts. There's even a good judicious use of original Peanuts music. And a nice homage to the tv special 'A Charlie Brown Christmas.' The humour, as you would expect, is pretty gentle. But it's great character comedy with it, and laugh out loud in more than a few spots. It is slightly overlong, though, and probably could have trimmed a few minutes of the flying ace subplot. But that's only a minor complaint. Because this is Peanuts as it should be, but up to date at the same time. And with one of the most beautiful final shots you will ever see, it will bring back happy memories to those who grew up on Peanuts. And hopefully capture a whole new generation of fans as well.Keep watching during the end credits for a couple of extra - and very good - scenes during the first half of them. And there's a fun little one as well right at the very end of them. The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English.Subtitles: English. It begins with an anti dvd piracy ad that you can't skip. And then a two minute long cartoon that acts as a preview for the latest Ice Age movie. This is the same one that played before this movie in the cinema. It can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote. And it's in the extras section of the dvd anyhow. The main menu plays the classic bit of Jazz 'Linus and Lucy' by Vince Guaraldi. So it's quite enjoyable to just leave it on whilst doing other things in order to just hear that.Extras are:Snoopy snippets: six short scenes, running no more than a couple of minutes, featuring Snoopy. And Charlie Brown. Who has one to himself. All are fun. And new. And can be watched individually or all in a row.How to draw: Snoopy/Woodstock/Charlie Brown. Three short tutorials from the film's director on how to draw the character in question. All no more than three minutes long.'Get Down with Snoopy and Woodstock' a music video featuring the Peanuts characters, using film clips and original footage. This remixes Linus and Lucy, but just about gets away with it. It does feature flashing images.Meghan Trainor's song 'Better when I'm dancin'' that features in the film, is here with a lyrics version that gives you them to sing along to, coupled with images of the character. Plus the actual pop video for it. And a behind the scenes look at the making of the latter.Snoopy's playlist takes you into individual sections of the movie itself where bits of music feature. There's almost a dozen of these moments. You can go through them individually or all in a row. Some are short. Some are several minutes long. There's a section of galleries, giving concept art, colour keys, character designs and final art.And five different cinema trailers for the film. Two full length ones and three teaser ones.

A Great Celebration of a Great Cartoon Strip
What is there not to like about Charlie Brown and Snoopy. This movie is made with great care/attention to Schulz's magnificent creation and more importantly with a lot of love. It is so obvious throughout this movie that the animators and writers knew they were working on "Holy Grail" characters. The gags are all there, the homages to the original 60's TV cartoons are there and the whole thing "just feels right".For the purists, there are a few differences (e.g. We actually get to see "The Little Red Haired Girl" and Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Peppermint Patty, Marcie are all in the same class and same school), but these can be easily overlooked as the viewer immerses themselves into the absolute joy of this movie. As someone who first encountered Peanuts in the mid 70's in the UK, it was like catching up with old friends again. Happy, funny and just a little bit emotional at the fabulous job done here. DREAM BIG.

My Book Report on Snoopy and Charlie Brown The Peanuts Movie.
I first watched Charlie Brown on T.V when i was about seven just because it was a cartoon , it was the 1970's and Snoopy was hugely popular . Im not sure i really knew what was happening or why but i watched anyway. Move on about five or six years and i finally understood it, Peanuts isn't a cartoon at all its more complicated than that. The Blu-Ray + the 3D is beautifully realised , its added roundness too the carters that they've never had before but the best thing is that they haven't over used this and stuck too the flat plane of the comic strip. Its nice when you first see how they look and soon after your watching it as though it always looked like that, nice job! 3D as we know is a novelty that can wear a bit thin after 30 mins if its not done consistently i.e some scenes are very 3D and some aren't ,leaving the viewer waiting for the next bit of 3D to happen instead of following the plot. Happily this isn't the case here, the opening scenes have snow falling over them and that works in 3D beautifully because you need something in the foreground to get the 3D effect .After that your eye finds something to enjoy in the third dimension but its not over stated so watching in 2D is still beautiful.Everyone can identify with Brown because we all emphasise with him about things we have no control over, he wants to be a sports star and talented and admired , yet of course life has other ideas about that. Snoopy is all his positive emotions , he's cool, fearless ,a hero and loved , Lucy though isn't far away and she is all his negativity , his self doubt, worthlessness ,his failure and worry , so its funny when he has to consult her for advice for 5c. The movie has two stories that run parallel through out , the eternal quest for the 'little red haired girl ' ,i can identify with that, if only the red haired girl would smile at me .......,and Snoopy's quest to rescue Fifi from the Red Barron. Charlie Browns story is more of worry and talky were as Snoopy's is more silent movie , cleaver that, both types of film covered in one film , never thought you'd watch a silent movie did you?The ''Snoopy and Charlie Brown The Peanuts Movie'' bothered me because its all back too front , Snoopy top billing ? Thats explained in one of the extras where the makers tell us how and who and why ect. apparently Snoopy is recognisable by 95% of the planet so thats why.Born Toby Wild reporting for Amazon.com thank you! enjoy.

Enough to melt the hearts of young and old
Not since the 1970's have gotten that ''old time'' Peanuts feeling, as with The Great Pumpkin and Christmas specials. But this new movie is a perfect updated version of the old series, without all the cheesiness and poor voices actors of the 80's 90's and beyond. The graphics are first-class, yet have all the charm of the originals. Just loved this movie and hope there are more to come
