Q: can I start it with my smart phone/wifi?

If your goal is to use it as-if a timer starts the coffemaker in morning.. why not get the BV1900TD version with a built-in timer? Or you could futz around with convertors, switches, alexas and various cables others recommend here.. net net you’d be ballbark same pricepoint, yet less hustle

Q: How does the pre-infusion work because once I push the button and it flashes no water comes out to wet the grounds?

The water's supposed to come out initially at a lower pressure to dampen the grounds before it reverts to full pressure for the brewing process. My experience with my Bonavita BV1900TS has been that the coffee brewed without pre-infusion seems stronger than brewed with it. And yes, the light remains steady when pre-infusion is off and blinking when it's on. You have to hold the power switch done five seconds until it blinks for on or blinks for off. You have to hold it down again for 5 seconds to change it from on to off or vice versa.

Q: What type of filter and number do you use? Thank you in advance!

I use cheapie market-brand 8-12 cup coffee filters as well. These are the same type that were in included with my BV coffeemaker. Yep, this is the best coffeemaker I've ever owned. I only brew 4 cups at a time since I'm the only one in the family who drinks coffee and each pot still comes out consistently good. For me, there's nothing better than that first sip of coffee from my first cup of the day.
