Much better than breaking your fingernails!
These little staple pullers work great. The prong is thin enough to get under the staples. I start with the back side to get it going, then the staple easily comes out without damaging the papers.

They are sturdy and well made, but pretty inexpensive.What more could you ask for? They do the job well and will certainly outlast any other gizmo on my desk, including the computer.
