Wonderful writing pencil
This is a really wonderful pencil to use, It's sturdy and has a nice weight to it. The paint is a little fragile; mine has one spot where the paint has chipped, although it doesn't bother me at all.

Quality feel, nice balance and great to write with
Seen this on offer and sucummbed to the temptation! It is pricy but when it is on offer it is ideal.I like Rotring pens/pencils and I find that they are nice to write with. The only problem I have had with previous pencils is that the nib mechanisim seems to fail with me. Bit early for this one but I'm hoping the 600 works with no issues and lasts me a long time. The pencil is all metal and has a nice weight/feel to it with the weight more towards the nib. The gnarled surface at the nib end is just the right size when holding it. I bought the 0.5mm which I prefer to write with.At the other end it has a rotator selector for different types of lead; 2H, 4H, 2B, B, HB, F, H. I guess you select these depending on the size of lead you end up putting in it.I bought the green, it is quite dark which is great - could be describes as a forest green?I liked it so much I ended up buying a 600 pen to go with it.

Quality is worth the price
Excellent quality. Nice and weighty. Just wished my colleagues would stop stealing them.

Great mechanical drawing pencil
Nice knurled grip. Comfortable to use. Premium quality metal technical drawing pencil. Pretty much perfect except it doesn’t have a sprung loaded tip. There is a rotary slider which allows you to select different values for lead hardness so you can know what lead you’ve loaded into the pencil. Finally, it’s red. Excellent.

The Apple of pencils
Rotring products are all exceptionally well made and this is no exception. It’s a tank. However, in practical use it’s not ideal. The thing is, the 600 was designed for drafting, which means ergonomically it’s well suited to drawing lines on a ruler (for example) but not great for extended uses of time. It’s also not ideal for illustration and definitely not for fine art as it’s really heavy. For fine detail, shading, or expressive gestural drawing I’d recommend the Japanese Staedtler 925. It’s basically the closest I’ve come to the feel of a wood cased pencil. The Rotring 600 is a nice piece of engineering but I feel it’s not really worth the money, as all the value seems to have gone into its construction quality. For me at least that doesn’t outweigh its ergonomic shortcomings, especially when there are more usable products available for half the price or less
