Penn Battle IV Spinning Fishing Reel

Salt or fresh water, Penn reels outperform. I fish the salt (the Gulf of Mexico) and have purchased Battle III & IV reels, 6000 & 8000. 6000 works well on 9' & 10' rods and the 8000 on 10' to 12' rods. I find Penn reels to be reliable, smooth with superior tension and drag. Also the III and IV LE rod and reel combos look, feel and perform perfectly. And no, I don't work for Penn...(I wish). Tight lines!

YES! I love it; the quality is outstanding. After looking at all of the leading manufacturers, I opted for the Penn. You can feel the quality, not an off-the-rack reel, smooth cast and retrieve. As quiet as a mouse, the performance was outstanding and caught fish on the first outing. It's a bit heavier than some reels I looked at, but the function and CNC gears are noticeable. Speed of retrieval is excellent, and it is an excellent value for the money, as a matter of fact, I have just ordered another!

I salt water wade fish 2-3 times a week and also use for kayak fishing. You can't beat a Penn reel. I own 5 Penn reels and 1 other brand. I will replace it with a Penn reel when it wears out. This is the only reel than stands up to the type of abuse I put it through. If you take care of it, it'll last a long time. Great value for the money. Light weight, well balanced and the drag works well.

The Penn Battle IV is a really strong “all-around workhorse” spinning reel. It doesn’t have the ultra-light feel of some models, and it’s not going to be the top dog in every high-precision, finesse application. But for toughness, drag performance, durability, and usable features (line rings, good spool, decent bearings), it delivers a lot of value for the price. If I was giving it a rating: around 8.5-9 / 10 for most saltwater & surf anglers, maybe a bit lower for those demanding ultralight or precision finesse. But in its class, it’s hard to beat for durability + performance.

Loved it. Solid fishing reel, it’s not as smooth as the Shimano my brother in law used, but the price tag is half what he paid. Id recommend it to anyone that’s in the market.

Im using this on my 10ft surf rod. This real feels amazing out the box. Solid parts, looks fantastic and appears built to last. I took apart just to see everything and It was greased up well. It reels great and the drag is beautiful. It casts effortlessly. I paired it with power pro line. I did overfill the spool so I was forced to take out some line but my casting distance did not suffer. I donmake sure to rinse off all of my gear after fishing and I do not see any reason why this real will not last for years. If going on a longer rod I would size up. This is perfect for my 2 piece 10ft rod. I will be buying from Penn again. I camt wait to test out the larger reels.
