Let's Call Them More Like "Guidelines"
Let me start off by saying this Heater works GREAT ! Now, as far as the Accuracy of the Temperature Control / Thermostat, well that has a little bit of a Learning Curve. It runs a little under what the Gauge says, by like maybe 3 Degrees - That being said once you "Calibrate" it with a good Thermometer (I used two Floaters for comparison, until I saw they both read the exact same temp for a week - I took one out. This Heater's "Gauge" was set at 80-ish, maybe 82 - The Water Temp settled in at 77. Not Bad. Just an Informational Tool. I have had this now going on 4 Months and it is Running Great - Once you Figure Out the Gauge, as I am thinking maybe they are all a bit different, you will know where to set it - I will say this, If I turn it down two degrees, it lowers the water temp two degrees and vice-versa. It stays put, though the suction cups should be on longer stems as the Top of the Heater presses the Tanks Edge and the Top Suction Cup Barely meets the glass - a 1/4" Longer Stem From the Heater Clamp to the Cups would be Perfect. But, like I said it stays put so Mission Barely Accomplished There. The Temp Control Knob is Tight to Turn - Which I guess feels better than if it were loose, But, you do have to grip it to adjust the Temp. I love the Glowing Amber Light that shows it's on and the Warm Red Glow you can See thru the Glass, lets you know it is heating evenly from top to bottom of the Wired Grid. I have had more expensive Heaters that didn't warm evenly - AND, I was skeptical due to the low price but the Quality of the Build is Really Good. It's a Solid Little Performer so far. As for Longevity ? We'll see !( I bought a Second one for my New 75 Gallon Tank) - When I first Plugged it in on the 20 Gallon, the Water was a Chilled Room Temp of 70 Degrees (F) - It took a Minute (Slang) to get it to 80 but has held steady ever since - Maybe 6-8 Hours to get there - IDK - I didn't really time it. After I learned it's Gauging "Idiosyncrasies", I found where it hits 77, though the Gauge says 80-81? It shows more like a sliding scale anyway so be your own judge on that. As for me, I Like It.

Reliable!
I've had this heater in my 50 Gal for just over two years, and it is still functioning reliably! I have kept aquariums for decades, and most of you know these heaters in general are somewhat low quality and tend to fail on a regular basis. Keep a spare on hand if you have expensive fish.Notes on this heater: It is not "electronic" and uses a conventional thermostat that audibly clicks on and off, and a little neon bulb as the "heating" indicator. I was a bit concerned about this, as I was wanting a "solid state" thermostat, without electrical contacts that tend to wear and fail. It has been fine so far, and it is reassuring to hear the click as the heater cycles on and off as it maintains temperature.Do not depend on the temperature scale on the heater for accuracy. Set your target temperature, then monitor your tank regularly for the first day or two, to ensure you are getting the temperature you want. Also, as with most of these heaters, the temperature of your tank will fluctuate slightly if your room temperature is not constant. If you keep your house at 73 in the summer, and allow it to drop to 68 in the winter to save energy, you may need to adjust your aquarium heater slightly to compensate. Use a good thermometer in conjunction with this heater to keep your temperature at the perfect level!

Purchased as 2nd unit in 55 Gallon
I have had my 55 gallon up for about 3 years now and never gave much thought to having a backup heater. As a matter of fact I have had tanks my whole life and never had a backup heater. But now I have a lot of money in this tank in fish and I dont want to loose any over a faulty heater. So I got another one. After reading a few reviews on here it seems you take your chance with it. Some work, some dont. The heater I have in there now was the same way and its still going strong after 3 years. I added this one in and adjusted the dial to 78F and after a few hours I checked the tank temp. It was around 79.3 which is too high for me. With the other heater already running I figured I would have to do some tweeking. After a few more hours I got it lined out to 78.2 which is good for what I have. I have been monitoring the temps for 3 days now and they seem to stay pretty much the same. Fluctuations when the LED light is on that is all. So far now leaks and hasn't cooked anything. So thats good. So far.....I am happy with the purchase and the price.

Accurate heater
Once dialed in, this heater is very accurate. I've had it running in a 32 gallon biocube aquarium in the first chamber for the past two years with no issues. I purchased a spare one just in case, but haven't needed it. The aquarium is currently in a walkout basement and the temperature gets into the low 60s during the winter months and my tank water stays at 78 with no problem.
