White Lily Self-Rising Buttermilk Corn Meal, 5 lb Bag (Pack of 2)

This self-rising buttermilk cornmeal mix is unsweetened- a rare find in the West. It’s delicious and makes great cornbread, fried or baked. It’s very easy to use and nearly impossible to mess up. The texture is soft and the cornbread has a great flavor. Buying it from Amazon is a bit pricey but there’s nowhere to buy it in AZ. Supply and demand determines just how much I’m willing to pay.

I lived in Tennessee where this cornmeal mix was readily available and it makes fabulous cornbread in my cast iron skillet. We like a grainier cornbread with a nice crispy edge to it and we like white cornbread. This makes really tasty cornbread so when I moved out of state and couldn't find it, I decided to try Aunt Jemima's yellow mix. It makes a very fine grain cornbread that does not have a crispy edge. It is really more cake-like in texture and for us that was unappealing. The taste was fine but it was different from WhiteLily so I found WL on Amazon and ordered it, from TN, no less, and guess I will just have to keep doing that as long as I can get it that way or until we are able to drive somewhere we can buy it by the car load. We love it. I also use WhiteLily flour which produces a wonderful biscuit and makes great baked cakes as well.

Maybe you wonder why anyone would buy cornmeal from Amazon. When you live on an island, sometimes the few grocery stores do not carry the brands you loved on the mainland! Such is the case on the Big Island of Hawaii. I love the White Lily Self-Rising Buttermilk cornbread. I have used it for ages -- seems like close to 20 years. This is a hefty markup over grocery store prices back home, but I don't really want to bring 10 lbs. of cornmeal over in my suitcase. Glad I can order it.

Cornmeal mix isn't available in Seattle. These people don't know how to make homemade cornbread or hush puppies.I was able to ship some up here through you and now it's a family treat to have hush puppies or cornbread at a meal. Now if I could just get some butter peas up here....

Can't make Grandma's cornbread without some good seasoned cast iron and White Lilly cornmeal. It makes the best cornbread I've ever had hands down. Finely ground and the flavor is spot on. Was packaged well in a large ziplock bag with the bag of cornmeal inside. Five stars all the way.

I make biscuits and oh boy white lily self raising flour are the best I would differently recommend it to anyone
