Easy to follow!
The Alfred's Basic Piano Prep Course book is the perfect addition for any new piano player. These basic piano teaching books are easy to follow, easy to read, and easy to teach. The pages are filled with a good use of white space. The book itself is made of good quality and I do not feel that they will easily deteriorate. I believe that these books by Alfred's Basic Piano Prep are the basic books for piano knowledge and a great place to start a beginner. I have already purchased other of the Alfred's Basic Piano Prep Course books and will continue to purchase from this publisher. I have also steered my student's toward purchasing their own sets of these books to help with practicing outside of the classroom setting. These books will definitely stay around in my teaching library for years to come!! I look forward to seeing what other prep books are written and how they supplement the current books!

You must read the very fine print on the top of the book to see ...
Beware! You must read the very fine print on the top of the book to see that this is the Universal Edition which refers to crotchets and minims - not quarter notes and half notes. When this distinction is not made in the advertised title of the book, it does the buyer a huge disservice and is very misleading.

Highly Recommend
I use the Alfred's series for all my piano students. (I own a piano studio)The Prep Course is what I use for 5-6 year olds who are starting. I love using this book. Lots of coloring and hands-on activities for the little ones!

Great Series
My daughter's piano teacher uses this series and I really like it. The music theory goes at just the right pace for her and the concepts are reinforced through all the books at each level.I will give most of the books in the series 5 stars but I gave the Ear Training book 4 because it book was a bit too easy for my girl. The teacher stopped using it halfway through because it wasn't adding anything to her understanding. It might be great for other kids though.

Beware - check if this is the Universal book!!
*** Please read update below!!!****I should have read more carefully, but never even realized that there was more than one kind of this book - the "Universal" (which this one is) and the regular one. This one uses "crochet" and "semi-breve" and such instead of "quarter rest" and "half rest."If you want the "regular" kind, this is the one you want Alfred's Basic Piano Library Prep Course for the Young Beginner: Activity & Ear Training Book, Level B . (ISBN 0739010654)Love this system - would give 5 stars for the system, but 3 stars just to "warn" you this is the "Universal" book.*****************UPDATE: Please note that my review was for the book for Level B that is Universal and that I gave the link in this review for the non-universal book. For whatever reason, this review shows up on the Level A and C books also which have nothing to do with my review. I wish Amazon would fix this so that a review written for a specific item would be for that item ONLY. Also, I have contacted Amazon about the fact that both the regular and the Universal book have the same title and have asked them to change the title to include "universal" (after making the same ordering mistake a second time). They have still not changed this. So just be warned to check if the book you are purchasing is the "universal" kind or not!

I like that there are multiple books for each level so ...
I’m a big fan of this series for my 4 and now 5 year old daughter. She was reading music on the staff at 4 and 4 months and we sang all the songs. I like that there are multiple books for each level so that she can keep learning songs at the same level. Other method books add new complexities in each song to the point that a child gets stuck or is afraid to try new repertoire. This series allows for you to switch between books at the same level so the child can master a variety of repertoire without getting bored. I’ve been pointing at the notes while she plays, singing the fingerings, singing the note names, and finally singing the lyrics. This way, repetition is never boring.
