Kensington FIDO U2F and FID02 USB-A Security Key and Fingerprint Reader - Windows, macOs, Chrome

This is not a windows hello reader. The fingerprint scanner is fused to chip so unlikely to spoof and is used as alternative to on-device-stored pin-code (can be any symbols and long, same as password) to unlock certificate on device. Use of fingerprints is optional, can be used with pin-code only. Works with Google ID, Apple ID, Microsoft Cloud Account, Technically is should be able to work for Windows login, but not as a part of Hello, due to this is NOT a biometric device, but an actual certificate smart-card.

The device does not work on Windows. It's not recognized in any way on any computer. I've tried on four different computers and it doesn't work on any of them, nor on Google Chrome. I contacted support, they were very kind and sent me a replacement for free. The replacement also doesn't work and has the exact same problem. I do not recommend buying this device. It's better to look for another option on the market. Unfortunately, I bought this brand because of its reputation and the advertisement, which they should change, as all the information is incorrect. They shouldn't offer it for sale for Windows devices. I haven't tried a Mac yet, but I've seen comments that it doesn't work on them either.

I use this for Windows Hello login.

This device is a great idea and definitely got my attention. However the shipping was horrible and took too long to become available. In addition the device did not work on most devices. The USB C technology being used with fingerprinting had to come equipped on your device prior for this to work. It does not operate like the traditional USB fingerprint readers which I have now gone back to. This technology will be great when they get it right but I would wait a few generations so you are not frustrated and disappointed as I was. Finally, I took multiple steps as given on the website, downloaded drivers, and other add ons per instructions and nothing worked. The hardest part is for the price this should be a plug and play and it is not. Definitely not with the time, money, or frustration at this time. Update: I reached out directly to Kensington and per their customer support this device does not support Windows despite the logo being advertised in the images here under the sell item.

So I have an older version of this fingerprint reader I've been using for 3yrs on my desktop machine - it works flawlessly but doesn't support Passkey storage function. This is advertised as supporting Passkeys and in fact does support them - however, it can NOT be used for Windows Hello Login or Authentication. In simple terms, you can't login to windows with it or use it for anything other than a ubi-key type passkey device. so you'd need the older one to login to windows AND this one if you wanted that functionality. Absolutley worthless IMHO.

When plugged in to Windows 10 you will be asked for you Windows pin. Ig you don't have one you may still be asked for one. This was required by Band of American.

Do NOT buy this fingerprint reader if you want to use it with Windows Hello to logon to your computer. The ad is not clear unless you drill down through questions to finally find the answer. I didn't drill down far enough before ordering this and paying for it. The fact that it is NOT Windows Hello compatible should have been prominently stated in the description. I'll be returning this and purachsing another brand than Kensington since they can be clear in their product descriptions.

Contrary to the description and title of the device, this is not a fingerprint reader. This device is only a fingerpint-protected FIDO2 provider device. It works quickily and easily with Windows Hello etc, only as a FIDO2 device similar to a YubiKey etc. This is not a fingerprint reader that will allow you to use your fingerprint on Windows Hello compatible software such as password managers like Bitwarden, Dashlane, etc or as a biometric device for two-factor authentication (2fa). As a FIDO2 device which it is, I would give this a high rating. As a "Security Key and Fingerprint Reader" as it is titled, it's a zero-star, because it is not a fingerprint reader.

El lector de huellas es compacto y agradable esteticamente. Lamentablemente funciona a medias en el sistema operativo Windows 11. Ya que descague los archivos de la página oficial, un software que te facilita el ingreso de una contraseña y tus huellas dactilares. Sin embargo esto no garantiza que funcione la aplicación de Windows Hello y así puedas desbloquear el equipo como en versiones anteriores de este lector de huellas con Windows 10. Posiblemente con una actualización de Windows este inconveniente se solucione pero hay que esperar a que esto ocurra. Tambíen sería genial que la empresa subiera un driver que ayudara a que el equipo reconociera el lector de huellas ya que no aparece en los dispositivos conectados como debería un escaner de huellas dactilares. Pero bueno tal vez sea funcional en otras versiones de Windows así como de Mac. Por eso mi calificación es neutral.

Não funciona no windows 11. Não foi testado o Windows 10 pois não tem suporte pela Microsoft e eu não uso mais. Não compensa comprar esse produto

After many hours of troubleshooting, I've managed to make the key detectable by windows as a security key and register a fingerprint. Unfortunaly, everytime I try to login with it, I get an error that something is wrong with my security key. Other than that, it looks great, but it is useless as it is.

L'USB fingerprint est extrêmement pratique, cependant, il n'est pas détecté par tous les ordinateurs Windows. J'ai deux PC, l'un équipé d'un détecteur d'empreintes digitales et l'autre non. Celui avec le détecteur fonctionne parfaitement avec la clé USB, tandis que celui sans détecteur n'est pas détecté par Windows Hello. Je me demande si le risque en vaut la peine.

I bought 2 as a backup, but none worked with Windows 11 23H2. No driver is available and it's detected and just normal USB fido not fingerprint. So it's not a faulty device - but a product itself. Windows Hello will not work and when trying to register to outlook -> it loops between PIN/fingerprint and error. So can't use at all.
