Outstanding Gate!!!
I have a new puppy and needed something secure to keep him from going from the kitchen to the living room, when I'm not around. I tried several walk thru tension gates, as I wasn't too keen on making holes in the wall. None of them did the trick, and all were returned. They were all flimsy, didn't stay secure and kept falling. The only one that worked was a stationary tension gate. It stayed in place, even with him jumping on it, but I had to keep climbing over it or taking it up and down all the time so he could go from room to room. Finally, I decided to stop wasting time and money and buy this one. I should have done that in the first place. It is very well made, strong, excellent quality and very easy to open and close, not to mention that it looks great.I'm happy because the gate also stays open with no trouble. When I am around, I leave it open, and the dog goes back and forth. When I'm not around, I close it and there are no issues. I would definitely recommend this gate to anybody who is looking for something safe and secure.

You get what you pay for - quality and long-lasting!
UPDATE: So it's been 7 years since I bought this gate. Two children and two moves later, it's still strong. The only part that has worn out is the plastic tab that you press to lift the gate assembly out of the mounting hardware. Otherwise, we have used this gate every day for seven years and it's still going strong. Considering how many of our baby items have been demolished over the years, this gate was well worth the extra cost up front. If we ever need a new gate, this is the only one I would buy!ORIGINAL REVIEW:I agree that this is by far one of the most expensive gates on the market. However, you really do get what you pay for with this gate. The entire construction is high quality from the gate itself to the mounting plates and even the screws (I have had cheap gates where the screw threads were so soft they stripped before I got them in all the way). The installation is simple and quick, and the instructions are clear and well-written (IE - they don't read like they were translated from Chinese with an internet translation program). The gate itself adjusts easily. The two-point latch mechanism is smooth and does not stick. The gate swings easily and latches with little force. The installation is quite secure (it supported my full weight). The free-hanging mount is great as there is nothing to trip over. Also, if you live in an old house (or apartment) you know that many of the doorways can be abnormally narrow. Most hardware-mount gates have a minimum mount width of about 30 inches. This is one of the few gates that can mount in doors as narrow as 26.5 inches. To sum up: I have used several gates, both pressure mounted and hardware mounted. While I do also keep a pressure mounted gate around to use as needed, it is no substitute for a quality hardware-mounted gate, and this is the best I have found.UPDATE: Have had this gate for five years now. It has lasted well into the second child with lots of wear and tear and a move into a new house! One big perk that I underestimated when we first got it is the ability of the gate itself to disconnect from the mounting hardware. When moving furniture this is a HUGE advantage. Just slide the gate off the mounting hardware, and then slide it back on when you're done. Much easier than removing screws! Be careful though that you don't snap the plastic tab or it will be virtually impossible to get the gate off! After these five years I'll say that the gate is now beginning to show its age. While the aluminum frame itself is still as strong as the day we got it, the spring in the latching mechanism has lost alot of its range of motion meaning sometimes the gate doesn't automatically latch. Also, one of the C-clips that permits the fine adjustment distance of the latch closure has fallen off which prevents the gate from latching snugly. I'm sure it could be replaced but it's a bit of a nuisance. All in all however, if we needed another door gate, I would totally buy this one. Still very happy with it.

Security
This is a wonderful gate. It protects my grandson and anyone else from falling down the stairs. It’s strong, sleek, and and above all secure. What I like too, is that our cat litter box is downstairs and the cat can access it from beneath. The double locking device (press two buttons at the same time on the top of the gate), prevents a young child from swinging the gate open. Its a gate for more a permanent situation as you screw it into the side walls of your staircase. It’s not for an open staircase. Although I plan not to remove it once it’s not needed for the baby but for safety reasons as our outside door opens into that opening. It’s easy to install

Great gate, terrible instructions, poorly packaged
This gate works extremely well. It feels very solid, easy to open, ultra convenient being able to be easily removed, and looks great. The downsides to this gate is that:1) There is no padding in the package it comes in. My gate looks like it was used with rub marks all over. The box it came in also smells like it sat in a warehouse This is unacceptable in my opinion for how expensive this gate is.2) The instructions have no words. The gate is easy to install and use once you understand what the instructions are trying to tell you, but to not have words or even an updated video is crazy.3) Price. For $200+ this is a really expensive gate and while the gate is solid, it does have some quality issues. As others said, I'd recommend picking up some extra screws as the ones it comes with aren't long enough to really bite into a stud.4) Installation next to a railing or half wall can make installation very challenging. The gate rails that slide together need to be completely vertical, there is hardly any wiggle room to try and sneak them in diagonally.
