I often make my own dashi from scratch, but I do not have a ton of storage space in my refrigerator or freezer, while I would like to make big batches and freeze it or keep it in the fridge, it is not feasible to do so. Since I like to enjoy a big bowl of miso soup almost daily for breakfast or an afternoon pick-me-up, I decided to look for an instant dashi powder that would do the trick. I went with the Hondashi because the price is very reasonable and the package takes up hardly any space in the fridge. It is not quite as tasty as a homemade dashi and it is quite salty, but it is very easy to use and a little bit goes a long ways. The flavor is also strong and does what it needs to enhance the body of the miso soup. I have been using almost daily and will definitely order again!
