One of the Best Texas History Books I've Read
This is one of the best Texas history books I've read. This well-written book covers the Texas Gulf Coast from Galveston down to just below Corpus Christi. It starts with the Karankawas and goes up through Jean Lafitte. It is divided into sections that contain little chapters inside them that are 1 to 3 pages on the historic topic. A native Texan and lifelong resident of the Port Arthur, Texas area of the Texas Gulf Coast, I learned things from this book that I never knew. A nice size book and easy read that is jam-packed with interesting history. We've been to the Corpus area several times, but we never knew the history we missed seeing when in the area. We plan a trip back to take in the missions and other sites cited in this book. I highly recommend this book.

Interesting Facts About Texas History
I really liked the history on the Karancahua Indians and their ultimate demise because we bought property near modern Carancahua Bay.

A Fun and Informative Read
Makes you realize that there was so much going on in this part off the country way back when that you probably never knew about. Have a read and you'll be very surprised. This book is an eye opener even for those of us who grew up in the general area.

Great Pre-Civil War Middle Gulf Coast history
This is a great read, if you are wanting to know more about pre-civil war history of the Rockport/Fulton/Aransas Pass area of the Texas Coast. It has some very interesting information about the area and what life was like in the era.
