This is Beautiful silk yarn/string... And, it's in a contition that one can do Anything with it!

As a thread it is nice, and I was able to wind it pretty well. However, I would not recommend this as a yarn for beginners... It is a thread for more advanced lace crochet.

All fabric artists beware: The silk that I bought, while beautiful in and of itself, was loaded with knots - some as close together as 4 inches! Also, there were underspun slubs throughout the 1000 yrds. So, together, that means the knitter and weaver and crocheter is that trying to cover up these flaws is nearly impossible. The slubs I don't particularly mind as I like some texture . . . But, the knots will present a really big challenge. So, Caveat Emptor! This knitter will not be buying any more of this item. That said, you get what you pay for. For 24 bucks, I guess I should not be surprised at the sloppiness of the yarn.

I have been looking for 100% silk yarn for many years. This is the first time I've ever seen it and am so happy to find it and will be ordering more in the future. It is really nice, but a little thinner than what I was hoping to find, but I spooled it into two balls and will be crocheting it double thickness. I never have learned how to read the thickness measurements of yarn or wire. I'm creative! I don't do numbers! Great delivery of the product!

Using very small knitting needles, knitted socks for a very large Jumeau. I like the lacey look. First the yarn was wound into balls to avoid tangling. After that, there were no problems at all. It was necessary for me to wear magnifying craft glasses, as my vision is no where near 20/20. Update: I completed one large Jumeau sock and really like the look of the silk sock on the doll. I gained speed as I went along and completed it fairly quickly. I plan to make one more Jumeau sock and then look around my doll collection for anyone else who is sockless. Becoming quite fond of this yarn.

The description of this silk yarn is 100 grams at 1000 yards, so that would be 10 yards per gram. I ordered 4 hanks of yarn which weighed 94g, 95g, 95g, and 97g. Being a total of 19 grams of lost weight, that equates to 190 yards short. My scales are accurate, I always weigh my fibers. Sellers like KnitPicks almost always give you a few extra grams so that you can swatch before you knit. I know this because I weigh everything. It’s a hard yarn to knit lace with, the natural color seems to make reading your knitting very difficult. I solved the problem by lightly dying the yarn with an acid dye and it turned out a lovely bi-color. Now I can’t wait to knit it up, but just wanted to warn other buyers that if you need a certain number of yards for your project, you might have to buy an extra hank. My missing 190 yards is a substantial amount to me. Edit: I see a few other reviews calling this silk yarn soft. No, it cannot be called soft unless you are accustomed to working with really coarse yarn. Soft silk yarn is like working with Angel Hair. This yarn is closer to a hay bale, and very knotty at that, but I think the more you dye, wash, and work with it, the more pliable it will become. It takes dyes nicely

There was no indication of the thickness of the fiber. There was only a small sheen which by the photo you couldn't tell
