Easy DIY replacement for broken lock/gearbox
5 stars, as the lock/gearbox fitted the door on our 20+ year old Wickes conservatory without any modification. With hindsight it would have been easier if I'd connected the gearbox to the locking bar before fitting the whole assembly to the door. As it was, I decided to fit the gearbox to the door frame first and then fit the locking bar, whilst at the same time trying to engage the slots in the top and bottom sections with the tags in the gearbox. Bit of a faff - certainly not the fault of the gearbox, just my own ineptitude and not thinking the job through properly. Which I guess is why I don't fit uPVC doors and windows for a living. For information the holes in the gearbox for the two machine screws that secure it to the locking bar do not have a pre-cut thread (presumably to allow for bolts/screws with differing thread pitch); however, the alloy is sufficiently soft for the steel screws to cut their own thread as you tighten them.In summary, good quality, excellent value and easy to fit :)

Just perfect
Very well priced as compared to shops. Good quality and arrived in time as mentioned in description. Easy to fit and was an exact match to my previous door lock.

Delivered quickly and fitted perfectly
Lock mechanism on 20 year old uPVC door failed. Couldn't find a replacement locally and needed urgently as front door would not close or lock. Found this one on Amazon supplied by Nigel Waters Hardware Ltd. The detailed technical diagrams with dimensions on the Amazon site gave me confidence that this one would fit. Ordered the lock mechanism which arrived next day. I am rubbish at DIY and even I was able to fit the lock mechanism and refit the original lock barrel in 30 minutes. Worked perfectly and door and lock feel like new. Much cheaper than calling in a locksmith or getting a new door. Very happy with product and service.

A new door from Wickes is £500.00 this gear lock fixed the issue for £29
Give yourself sufficient time to take in how the door lock works, then remove parts in order,. replace the lock from the guide on YouTube they are a common fixing, and you will find the one you have, the instructional visual is great as you can stop the fitting sequence on the tv. Good value for money.

Perfect Replacement Part
I ordered this around 4pm Bank Holiday Monday, and it arrived midday on the Tuesday. Thank you for a prompt service.Fitting. True, I had removed the gearbox on the Monday to make sure I had the right one, so when it came to fitting the new one, I knew what I was doing. But from start to finish, it was in and working with 15 minutes - including cleaning & lubricating other moving parts! The diagrams with the dimensions (above) were excellent, ensuring I'd ordered the right one!The quality of the product seems the same as the original, which lasted exactly 20 years before it broke. Time will tell!Price is similar to others on Amazon but a lot cheaper than many of those offered by dedicated upvc specialists.Good buy. :-)Tools required:1 x T20 Torx bit1 x PH2 Screwdriver bit1 x bit driver (for above)Fitting:Briefly ...1. Undo the two screws holding the handles.2. Remove both handles and the bar between them.3. Undo the single screw holding the lock in position.. you may need to put the key in the lock and twist it to a 1 o'clock position and remove the lock barrel.4. I made sure the position of the brass lugs were in the unlocked position so the door would open and close without the key.5. Undo the six or so screws holding the brass strips in place. I left the bottom one in place to ensure they remained in the right oositiin. I also tempoarily wrapped the two strips with a bit of tape to hold them in place. Pull the strips away from the door by a few inches6. Using the T20 Torx bit, remove the two screws holding the gearbox mechanism in place, and gently wiggle it free.7. Ensure the lock of the new gearbox is pushed back into the mechanism so it is 'unlocked'. This can be done with your thumb!8. Fit the new gearbox against the brass strips ensurimg it's a flush fit. Then repoace the two Torx screws.9. Remove the tape if used. I also lubricated the brass sliders while they were available.10. Push the mechanism back into the slot in the door and replace all the Phillips screws you removed earlier.11. Reinsert the lock barrel (with the key still in the 1 o'clock position) and reinsert the screw that holds it in place12. Replace the bar between the handles and then fit the handles. The two screws should be on the inside handle plate - obviously!Check it all works!Incidentally, it took longer to write this than to actually do the job! 😃

Perfect Swap but not built to last?
Unfortunately I have to edit this review as 11 months after fitting this, I am now in the same position as before where something has broken inside the mechanism and I cannot lock the door again. Will begrudgingly have to buy another one as even though £8 more than my first purchase, its a hell of a lot cheaper than a new door to keep us ticking over until our extension is built.Thank goodness firstly for the product beingavailable so quickly and secondly the great price! Just under £20 (rather than the £100 a shop wanted!) Took the old one out and slot this one in, no hassle, even for a novice like me. Plenty of help online with pictures and videos if you get stuck....just make sure the catch is the right way round (depending if it's going in a left or right door). I had to unscrew it, flip it over and tighten, 2 second thing that I only found out when I put the door back together! Doh! Other than that, great replacement.
