Good first reader about history
I recently purchased the children's book "Take a Hike, Teddy Roosevelt!" from the Step into Reading series for my son and we both absolutely loved it! This book is a perfect introduction to the life and legacy of the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. The illustrations are vibrant and engaging, and the storyline is informative and easy to follow. My son particularly enjoyed learning about the many outdoor activities that Roosevelt enjoyed throughout his life, and it inspired him to want to explore and learn more about nature. As a parent, I appreciated the way the book presented Roosevelt's love for nature and conservation in a way that was both educational and entertaining for young readers. Overall, I would highly recommend "Take a Hike, Teddy Roosevelt!" to any parents or educators looking for a fun and informative book to introduce children to this important historical figure.

Favorite President
There is a reason his face is on Mount Rushmore. This book is a great introduction to one of the most dynamic and interesting Presidents this country has had. We are now on the 45th President in Office. Most are not memorable. Most rarely have left a truly lasting impact on this nation. Teddy is one that stands out from the few memorable Presidents. His policies, his vigor, his outlook on life. "The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything." -TRThis is a man that overcame asthma, born to wealth but held the common man, the blue collar worker with high regard and would get his hands dirty working along side such. This is a man that set up the National Park Service and established the National Park system. Conservationist (though it had a slightly different meaning then). A man that was self taught on many subjects. Wrote peer reviewed books on scientific topics and regarded by experts on that topic. Supported the military and international relations. Astute thinker and very active physically. A true Renaissance Man.

Nicely leveled reader with A cute story and great messages for today’s kids.
My son could read this to me, needing help with only a few words. This was a cute story and teaches kids about The little asthmatic boy who grew stronger with fresh air and exercise and loved nature enough to protect it. So many good lessons for today’s kids: pollution bad, exercise good, education and hard work good, conservation good. This would be a great gift for a kid in preparation for a trip to a national park ( any really, though the Grand Canyon is mentioned specifically).

Great for an Intro to Teddy
We used this as part of our Social Studies homeschool curriculum for a first grader and it also kept my preschooler interested. It's an easy read that can be done in one day and gives some great surface facts about Teddy Roosevelt and his contribution to the conservation of our parks in America. They also giggled at the fact that Teddy kept animals in his home and freaked out his mother. :)

We love the books
We are enjoying the Step into reading. We are choosing books about history and invention. Our son is dyslexic and he practices reading a book each day for 5 days before reading it to his grandparents on Saturday mornings. The stories keep him captivated and the grandparents enjoy hearing him read the book. He has grown as a reader. We are looking forward to moving to level 4.

Introduction to history for early elementary
This is a good series for early elementary. The writing is lively and the colorful pictures are appealing to children who are used to cartoons. Each book describes an important historical figure or invention. This one describes the President who developed the policy of saving scenic places for all of us to enjoy forever. I think it's a good idea to choose one important characteristic to catch the child's imagination. Even though it doesn't begin to describe the whole character, it might help the children remember the name and perhaps even help them begin to grasp the significance of some historical events.

Skipped some biography
This book focused on the environmental concerns part of his biography. It skips that he was in the Spanish-American war, skips that he served as police commissioner in NYC, etc. To be honest the man lived quite a full life. It would be very hard to include everything he did in any small kids book without turning into a list of activities instead of being a story. So overall I was pleased.
