They work much better than the glass bulb variety.
These work great for my potted balcony plants while I’m on vacation. I save up plastic or glass bottles, fill them up with water and put them upside down in the terracotta spike. I usually test them before I leave for about a week to make sure they’re working. This is the second set I’ve bought as I have a few larger plants that require 2 spikes in the pot and a couple have broken/disintegrated over the years. They’re easy to use and seem to work well. They’re better than the glass bulbs which I bought once and all the stems broke on those. The enclosed instructions are obviously written by someone whose first language was not English.

They work but are fragile
I have approximately 30 pots filled with annual flowering plants and I have two raised bed vegetable gardens. When I am home, I water every evening. However I often am traveling in summer. I have found that when I travel my plants do MUCH better with these watering spikes. I put a lot of time and money into my flowers and these spikes help ensure the flowers do not die when I am away. Thus, to me they are worth their cost. Pros- They will work with different bottle sizes. I use old beer bottles, sparkling water bottles, and wine bottles. The choice depends on the size of my pot, the length of time I will be away, and how quickly the water drains for the particular pot. Cons- The spikes break VERY easily. You need to be extremely careful when first inserting them and when replenishing the water bottles. Never try to just push them in or push them lower. They WILL break. Some of my pots/plants go through a lot of water. Thus even with these spikes I can’t leave them unattended for more than a week. If I am gone longer than a week, I get someone to come and water and refill bottles that are low. Tips. When possible, put the spikes in first. Soak the spikes, dig the hole for the spike, gently place the spike and pat the soil around it. Then plant your plants. Then fill your bottles with water, flip the filled water bottle, plugging the top with your fingers, and place the bottle inside the spike. Monitor how much water is being used per day before you go away. That will help you know the size of bottle required. I have found great variation on the water flow. I have switched spikes at times and my experience is that the amount of water flow is more based on the pot drainage, soil type, amount of sun, and type of plants than it is on the spike itself. Before you leave to go away, water your plants well and make sure the soil around the spike is wet. The spike seems to work better when wet to begin with. I have found the easiest way to fill the bottles is to get a large bucket and fill it with water and submerge the bottle until full.

Saved my plants
We took a 2 week trip to Alaska. I was worried about keeping my indoor plants alive without having someone come in to water. These worked great! I did a few test runs before leaving to determine the rate they would absorb. Using a full wine bottle, they would most likely run out a few days early but that was close enough. We are home now and plants look great! 1 plant bottle was completely empty and the other still had water just above the wine bottle stem. Worked perfectly. A few things to note: They were too large for smaller plants. I easily carried those to neighbor to care for. When loading the full water bottle, make it a very quick motion to not make a mess. I did soak the cones and pre watered plants to slow the draining. I am not sure if using multiple in the same plant would make them last longer. You could test that if needed. Great solution for longer trips!

Consistent, slow watering, works great!
I use one of these with a wine bottle in each corner of a rectangular outside planter at all times. The water level goes down slowly, indicating consistent input, which is exactly what these particular vines need. In addition, I’m so impressed with this company’s response to my email asking that they consider a different packaging than styrofoam, and they are considering other more eco-friendly options. THAT is great customer relations! Kudos to Sepor Service Team!

My plants say, "They are life savers."
I just bought some more of these, as I don't always remember to remove them from pots before gifting plants (and, yes, there are occasional new plants to outfit but I will never admit that to my husband). We have used these successfully for years to maintain my larger plants that can't easily move into a temporary terrarium when we leave for longer vacations. I use between one and four of these per plant, each supporting a wine bottle full of water. The bottles are usually empty upon our return, but sometimes not, and that tells me no one is getting over-watered with this method. One plant almost reaches our 9ft. ceiling and needs good water support, which this product provides. None of these have broken during use (I have broken them when storing or cleaning, but do not blame the product for that). The wider mouth easily accommodates different sizes and shapes of wine bottles. These spikes are sturdy enough to support the filled bottles even when I don't get them perfectly aligned. This product is well designed and well-made and provides peace of mind during vacations.
