Grows fast and effortless.
This grew perfectly and fast. I see a lot of other users complaining about the seeds not growing, but in my experience it has to do with how much they water them and how much sun they get. This also does not need the planter to have the soil half way up as that would be too much soil for this. You need very little water to start and your soil should not be sloshy and wet but moist. I would recommend that you cover the planter when first seeded with plastic wrap to create a greenhouse effect. These sprouted in less than 3 days and they continue to grow indoors with reflected partial sunlight

Great setup for my kitties
I have 3 kitties and I have been using this brand of cat grass for several years. The quality is great and always consistent. My cats love it. I did not like that the plastic container was light weight and as they munched it would spill dirt and seeds all over. I needed a container with some weight to it. I did not want something breakable. This fit! I use the smaller plastic containers, this fits two. I have them on rotation as one gets old, the other is growing in so the cats always have grass. Easy to clean since the smaller refill containers are disposable. I do not think these small containers are marketed as refills for the wood container but they should be. Highly recommend

The ceramic version is more sturdy, but the cat loves to eat the grass- so much so he vomits it
It is easy to grow but sort of small if you have a giant bull-in-the-china-shop cat like mine. Most cats that like grass will probably be just fine with this and love it.My cat loves the grass but often knocks this over and also eats so much that he vomits it back up.I also bought the ceramic version which he doesnt knock over as easy (he does knock it off the base), but still ends up vomiting.Im sure he's a rare case, I feel like he needs a sturdy planter-size version with this grass in it and that might work better. My cat loves to eat the lawn grass so we figured cat grass would be such a treat, can't figure out why he vomits it though?

Cats loved it
My cats loved it! I planted the seeds, watered it, and then put plastic wrap on. Grew in a week or so.

Careful balance between over and under watering
Worth noting, I’m kinda bad at knowing when the soil is dry enough for me to water it next. I tried my best though.First batch, my cat loved it, but from my sister’s advice I was trying really hard not to over water it because she had a mold problem. I guess I waited too long thinking the soil should be drier because the grass died. My cat was still interested for a bit but I eventually got a refill kitSecond batch, I made sure to water it more frequently than the first time. Still trying not to over water it, but I guess I did, not enough for visible mold, but enough for gnats…I live in a pretty small 1 bedroom apartment, which means these gnats would venture from the grass and bother me everywhere. Took me some time to figure out they were coming from the grass. While my cat seems to like hunting the gnats (he doesn’t kill them, just squeaks and bats his paws at them haha) they drive me a little bit crazy. I’m about to throw the whole thing out, it’s too infested.Three stars, because my cat does love the grass. He’d chew it, lay next to it, that sort of thing. Planting it was easy and it sprouted quickly. That, and I’m just not a plant guy, I figured cat grass would be simple enough but maybe I’m just too incompetent with taking care of plants to manage even this.I’ve seen some cat grass kits by other brands that don’t use soil, and I might consider trying something like that if it’s the soil that’s the problem, but I don’t think I have the skill to maintain this without causing problems. I did really enjoy it while it lasted, my cat got a huge kick out of it and that made me smile.I just can’t seem to find the right balance to maintain it without issue.

POORLY DESIGNED, IT LEAKS & THEY ONLY SUPPLY HALF THE SOIL YOU WILL NEED
DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION. Prior to purchasing this RUSTIC WOOD planter, I originally purchased the white ceramic version by The Cat Ladies, and I loved it. The WHITE CERAMIC planter came with just enough soil disks needed, and the instructions were clear. My cat loved it! So I decided to buy this rustic planter version so I can keep cat grass readily available for my cat every day.BUT, when I opened the box to this 'RUSTIC WOOD' version today, I found there were ONLY 3 TINY SOIL DISKS, not nearly enough to fill the planter even halfway. The rustic wood box is TWICE AS BIG as the ceramic version, so why wouldn't they provide more soil disks? I had to add 3 more disks just to get the soil level within an inch from the top, and it was still too low. The manufacturere did not provide enough soil disks to plant the seeds in this planter! So now I have to buy several more disks separately, which is upsetting.EVEN WORSE, this rustic wood version doesn't come with any base, and it only has a FLIMSY PLASTIC INSERT stapled inside the box, but it does nothing to prevent leakage. Moisture is seeping thru the 'rustic wood' and it has no base to protect my furniture. What were they thinking?!?DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION! The manufacturers had no sense of logic when designing this one, including their failue to provide enough soil for the bigger planter and TWO packets of seeds! I feel cheated with this lame version - and BOTH are THE CAT LADIES cat-grass kits with soil & seeds. Buy the white ceramic version instead, because this one is a RIP-OFF!

SO CUTE and smells fantastic!
I expanded the soil and planted the seeds today, and the cats loved every step of the process. The wood smells amazing and aromatic, the soil is good quality, and the whole process was simple as could be. I buy grass for my girls usually monthly, or sometimes every couple of weeks and they love it, so within a couple months this planter will pay for itself and save me money. Very happy with this purchase!
