I replaced my old router because it was over heating and causing the connection to drop. I would noticed that after a minute as the speed would start dropping till the connection fails. This was a replacement to fix that issue but while it is better and has yet to totally fail, the heat is still an issue. USB3.0 rates of data transfer can overwhelm hardware but my old one worked flawlessly for a year before heat became an issue. This started straight away... even with just a single hard drive plugged in (the only physically connected cable) I have had it a week and it works for the small stuff, but when you want 10Gb or more... nope, it overheats and the drive's plug gets real hot. I'm going to set it up on my other PC's and see if it's localized, but I doubt it.

This is a review of the powered 60w 10 port device with switches. I bought it because I'd added a Pluggable Displaylink USB to DisplayPort device that seemed to be adding some USB instability to my low end Dell Vostro laptop. Drives not being recognized when plugged in, etc. The Pluggable is a fairly high power/traffic device, so I thought a powered hub could take some load off my Dell's power supply. So far it's working well, with one big advantage. Rather than using three ports on my laptop, I'm now only using one, so it's almost like a laptop dock except that I also have an Ethernet cable and power cable attached (the USB-C on my laptop is not the advanced type that can do display port and power, so I wouldn't want it also handling my Ethernet traffic through the USB port). Since I only use the external monitor and all my USB devices are now separately powered, the only draw on my laptop's power supply is for the laptop itself (CPU/GPU, BT and USB systems, etc.) The switches are a nice little plus so that I can disconnect a device without unplugging it. My only complaint is the design is not such that it's easy to label what each cord does, which would be useful for the switches, but I did create a list I posted close by.
