Quiet and reliable.
I purchased this drive to upgrade/replace the 40gb IBM Deskstar in my Alesis Fusion 8HD Workstation/Synthesizer. The IBM was, from installation, noisy and twitchy. Errors would occur sporadically and periodically In other words, not a good solution for a device with minimal maintenance and repair tools: the Fusion is a very full featured synthesizer, but it IS a synthesizer, not a PC. Anything past a quick format has to be done by taking the drive from the synth and interfacing it to a computer. I suppose the short version is: install and forget is the primary requirement for this synthesizer. The Samsung SV1203N has been quiet, reliable, and so far I've had no errors. The IBM generated errors from day one. I'll be looking more closely at Samsung drives in the future. Obviously, IDE is slowly being supplanted by SATA, etc, but if Samsung is producing a high quality product for legacy machines, I really want to see their offerings for current technology when I upgrade storage on my more "modern" devices and computers.

fair replacement
could have installed a sata drive with an adapter to my older xp computer but didn't seem necessary so long as it works.

Worked like a charm
I have an old DVD recorder, and the hard drive failed. I swapped it with this new drive and it worked like a charm. It couldn't have been easier.

Samsung SV1203N was a Great Buy
This hard drive arrived well, tested well with no bad sectors and passed extensive S.M.A.R.T. testing. It is working well in my computer and stays really cool compared to many other hard drives. At its purchase price and low failure rate, this should be a good drive for a long time.
