Potent!
The reviews didn’t lie this smell is very strong. I applied with water and gloves. My curls felt so strong/moisturized/healthy after rinsing. I washed my hair maybe 5 times and the smell still didn’t leave but it now smelled like maple syrup which I dont detest. Took 2 weeks for the smell to wear off, ruined my pillow cases.I am giving this 3 stars because I had to do too much to get my hair back to normal. This works as a great protein treatment. If I have to wash my hair 10 times afterwards trying to get rid of the smell I am stripping it of all nutrients from the mask and any natural oils. There just too much work to do afterwards to get ur hair back to normal. If this is something done twice a year, okay, otherwise get a different strengthening mask.

Is good, but not for me. Smells way too strong!!!
Bottom line: It works really well for its intended purpose, but your head will have a strong smell for days!!I appreciate all that is natural about this product, its ingredients are 100% vegan and cruelty-free with essential oils and herbs. There's no hydroxy-, -sulfate, hexyl-whatever listed in the ingredients. The mask is supposed to be good for the health of your scalp to promote hair growth, reduce shedding, and improve hair texture. Also has ingredients with antifungal and antibacterial properties. So I was eager to try it for my very long hair that I try to keep healthy as much as possible. The instructions are to mix an appropriate amount of powder with either orange juice or coconut milk to create a smooth paste. Apply paste to hair, put shower cap over it for 30 to 45 minutes, and then rinse out. Seems simple enough, but it left me with a lot of questions. Should I apply to shampooed hair, wet hair, dry hair? Do I shampoo it out, use conditioner, or just use water? I decided to use coconut milk and since I didn't want to just use a quarter can, I mixed the whole can of coconut milk with the whole bag of mask powder. I thought it would be okay if I left it in the fridge for a few weeks. The instructions didn't say to mix only what I was going to use immediately, nor did it say that it couldn't be stored once mixed. So I put it in the fridge until I was ready to use it, which was about an hour later. My mistake was not letting it warm to room temp before applying it to my hair because it definitely firmed up and had the consistency of store bought frosting. So needless to say, it was not easy to apply to my head and hair. The scent was a mixture of incense and curry paste, and it was strong! It was definitely not to my liking, but I knew I had to proceed. 30 minutes later, I shampooed and conditioned the paste out of my hair. My hair felt nice - clean but not dry, silky, and light. But boy did it smell!! It smelled so strong I couldn't go nose-blind to it, and I could smell it all night into the next day and beyond. The smell was on everything it touched - my clothes, towel, bedsheets, etc., and it permeated a radius of about 6 feet around me. I was not happy about it, I felt self-conscious about going out in public. Instead of waiting my usual 3 days to wash my hair again, I washed it the next day, and the next day. It does smell better now 4 days later when it’s dry, but it’s still pretty strong when my hair's wet. I'm big on smells, and I like everything I put on me to either smell nice or neutral. If you're like me, you'll probably want to skip this product no matter how well it works. If you don't mind smelling strongly of exotic spices, I would say go for it, your scalp and hair will thank you for it.

avoid if you're not a fan of strong medicinal/herbal smells, it lingers!
First off, the instructions could use a little work 😅It's a bit vague to say add enough of this powder + liquid of choice till you make a paste. Since the consistency of the paste isn't specified, it's hard to know if you're on the right track. Also knowing what amount of powder/liquid/paste is relatively best for what hair length would be nice too.I ended up with a more liquidy consistency by dumping the entire powder package and a whole can of coconut milk. My hair is shoulder-length, and I was actually able to use up all of the paste for my hair mask. Again, not sure if i was doing it correctly, but I did it?The paste was also quite difficult to get out. I rinsed my hair and then had to shampoo it twice before I was finally able to get it all out.As mentioned in the title, this mask gives off a very strong medicinal/herbal scent. The smell is quite potent as soon as you open the bag, and it doesn't really get diluted at all throughout the hair mask process. I don't hate the scent, but the smell was quite overpowering and it had some real staying power.Despite rinsing my hair, shampooing it twice, and then conditioner, I still walked around smelling like herbal medicine for at least two days. Not a hint of my shampoo/conditioner/body wash scent.I didn't notice any changes in my hair after using this mask, so it was honestly a bit disappointing in the end :/

It is Messy
I have very long hair. I mixed about a 1/3 of the bag with coconut milk to a thin paste consistency. I like the fragrance, but it is strong. It was a messy process, but the results was soft hair. It was an experience that I may wait awhile to do again.

Natural, chemical free way to keep hair healthy and soft
Pretty good to naturally nourish and repair hair. The powder itself has a pretty strong herbal spice aroma that I personally like. The powder is finely ground and mixes easy. The instructions are simple, and I chose to mix it with coconut milk to make a smooth paste. I section my hair and apply the paste with my hands starting from scalp to root (process can be a little messy-- put a towel on floor incase anything falls). I do this before shampooing my hair. I leave it on for about 35-45 minutes and I put a shower cap over my head to keep it from drying out. After rinsing my hair feels soft and manageable. I then use a mild shampoo to wash my hair. My strands have a healthy shine and I notice less frizz. I'm impressed with the ROOTS AND HERBS Ayurvedic Hair Mask. It's a natural and effective treatment that gives visible results. I love that it's vegan and free of harmful chemicals. This mask will definitely be a staple in my hair care routine.
