Great media player!
Great media player. If you are planning on buying it than I highly recommend buying special alpine hdmi/usb cable with it before installation and ask your installer to run a aux cable since fm modulator sucks! And you have convert your movies to special codecs if you want to watch usb movies on it. With extension apline hdmi cable i am able to mirror my iphone and use amazon firestick without a problem.

It's a great hi-qual flip down overhead
It's a great hi-qual flip down overhead, make sure to get the AUX hooked up to your audio (if avail) to avoid any unwanted static. Also added the alpine HDMI cable to allow for future expansion and other plug ins.USB stick is a pain, appears to work only w/ USB 2.0 sticks (not 3.0 sticks).Finding the correct video codec that would work took 3 attempts. Finally found one that didn't get the file format error on-screen.Used the .FLV format video codec 720x576 rez, 30fps, audio codec mp3, stereo ch, sample 22.05khz and bit rate 192 kbps.

Great product, BUT.....
Great product for road trips. The installation is a little complicated so I brought it somewhere to get it installed. One thing I would recommend is if you have an aux outlet for your radio, is to hook it up that way. The FM transmitter is very staticky and you need to put it real loud to hear it. Other than that I love it!

Insanely poor value
I did not buy this through Amazon, so it's not a "verified purchase", but it's the same exact model/product. It has great audio/picture quality. Alpine IS a good brand. I'm writing this because this machine only lasted 2.5 years. For the money spent, that is ridiculous. The motor went out on it and NO ONE fixes these things. The screen still works, I hooked up my 8 bit Nintendo to it and got a picture. The disc just doesn't spin. I've called at least 10 places and nobody touches these, so I'm just out. I like to buy the nicer, up model stuff on a lot of consumer purchases. I regret buying this.

Don't buy for USB media port use
We purchased this specifically because it had the ability to hook a USB drive with a bunch of movies into it and play them. We don't really have any DVDs around anymore, everything is purchased digitally so I can't comment on the DVD drive functionality. The built in video decoder used to play files off the thumb drive only supports old video formats (like XVID/DIVX). This requires that you re-encode your current files, most likely h.264, which is terribly annoying but I could have dealt with, but the audio decoding doesn't work consistently and the bitrates have to be so low that the movies are always blocky. I've tried contacting alpine support multiple times asking for improved encoding parameters or process they recommend but have had almost no help from them, they keep letting the support cases auto close. The HDMI input from an iDevice works, but having the cables dangle down from the middle of the ceiling ended up being much more annoying than I expected and puts stress on the connectors / adapters. Having a USB charging port next to the HDMI input port is a nice touch.I do like the default behaviors, it will auto play the movies on the thumb drive when you start the car, remembers the location and moves on to the next movie on the thumb drive automatically. The kids always have something to watch without any intervention (at least when the audio works) and they don't seem to mind that the picture quality is atrocious... yet.

USB mp2 works on Alpine HDMI
As a dvd player, the Alpine overhead flip down is top notch for picture quality. However, I didn't give it 5 stars, because as several others have indicated the USB input isn't easy to use. Having said that, with the right technique, the USB stick does work for video, and it's really not too difficult. The frustration was uncovering the right technique. And, by the way, Alpine is completely clueless on how to make the USB video work. Here's what I did to get the USB video to work:1. USB 3.0 thumb drives are ok. But, you MUST format the the thumb drive in FAT32 format. If you have a windows 7.0 or newer operating system, download a program like FAT32format because windows 7.0 doesn't give you the option to format in FAT32, only EXFAT or NTFS. The Alpine HDMI player will NOT recognize a thumb drive formatted in EXFAT, which is typical for thumb drives larger than 32GB.2. You can use almost any size USB thumb drive. I am currently using a 128GB thumb drive in the Alpine HDMI player.3. As others have indicated, the Alpine HDMI is very specific about the type of digital video file it will play. I tried a number of different file formats to no avail until I converted my mp4 to mp2 employing Aimersoft. That did the trick. I can play ripped dvds as mp2 on the Alpine all day and all night long.4. Note ... if you rip a dvd to mp2, FAT32 file size is limited to 2GB. A large movie in high quality will likely be much larger. So, I had to divide a large movie into 2 (or more) separate files with my Aimersoft program.5. Also, the Alpine HDMI menu system isn't the greatest. It's not well designed to scroll thru digital files names, and unlike Windows Media Player you can't select specific files to create a playlist.6. Bottom line ... it works great when it plays, creating the mp2 files is the key, menu system is poor. Given all that I'd still buy it again.

Overpriced and overrated
Not worth the price. Like another reviewer said, the warranty is only 12 months. Mine also stopped working not long after the warranty expired. Installation shop confirmed the unit is bad and nothing that we caused. I also thinks it’s super bulky and ugly.
