An easy-flowing narrative packed with excellent vocabulary for its target audience (7+)
'Attack of the Vikings' centres around an ambitious little boy called Finn, who is keen to prove himself to his father as a mighty Viking war lord. Finn finallly gets his chance when vicious 'sea-wolves' attack his village, but is Finn's bravery and determination enough to fend off Red Swein and his blood-thirsty crew?! An easy-flowing narrative packed with excellent vocabulary for its target audience (7+). I read this book with my Year 3 class in preparation for our Vikings topic and they absolutely loved it. It provided them with plenty of historical discussion points, as well as fantastic descriptive language to enhance their writing. It was also beneficial for the boys to be able to recognise the strong female characters throughout the story. We hope to go on more adventures with Finn and his gang of fearless warriors!

he learns what Vikings are really like when his village comes under attack
An interesting and engaging story about a boy who desperately wants to be a Viking. Left in charge by his father, he learns what Vikings are really like when his village comes under attack. A fantastic story for children aged 8+ that has been well written with careful thought for its target audience. The action is fast paced and there is an excellent balance of history and fantasy. I can’t wait to read it with the children in my class for our new topic on the Vikings.
