Consider your application! What do you need this for?
This product is GREAT when used for a correct application. This device is for non-electronic devices - so its NOT for your camera - batteries - laptop - iphone (phone) - ipod - you get the point. If its a "hi-tech" device - this is not the item you need! This voltage converter is for devices with heating elements.I needed it for a 120V fondue pot which according to the information on the unit stated it ran on 1800Wperfectly within the 2000W range of this device. These devices typically do not have grounding prongs just polarized plugs. (The typical plug with just two leads)Its a shame the bad reviews have buried this item - its a steal compared to the $35+ radioshack charges. If your device has a a simple heating element and nothing more (fondue pot, heating blanket, curling iron, iron, waffle maker, etc.)this will be perfect. If not, then for laptops and cellphones try - Simran SMF-200the same applies DO NOT use that converter for heating devices! WATTAGE PEOPLE, WATTAGE!

This is a CONVERTER not a transformer. Read to see the difference.
This product is intended for things like heaters, clothing irons, hot water heaters with brute energy needs. The way a transformer works is through a winding of copper wire which has been wound next to another winding of copper wire that uses double the number of wingdings. The flux created form one winding magnetically fly to the other cooper winding which has double the windings. Therefor 120 volt x 2 = 240 volts or visa versa. This makes a very good quality transformer however it is heavy and costly. You can get about 1000 watts for about $120 and it weighs about 25 lbs.A CONVERTER (which is this product) weighs about 6 oz and costs $12. The way it works is that there is a transistor type chip that uses the oscillation of the A/C voltage(voltage goes from 220v and then down through 0v all the way down to -220v and then back up at 50 hz or 60 hz). A converter abruptly cuts the home outlet voltage of 220 volts as it is reaching 120 volts and then connects it back as it reaches down to 120 volts again. This happens 50 to 60 times a second. This is why it can ruin precision motors and electronics. Hope this helps.

Shouldn't be sold anywhere/at all.
Not purchased from Amazon. If you read the back of the box about "non-electronic" use, you kinda wonder, what on earth this thing was for in the first place?Asia (~220v) was intended use and well, non-use is more of what it was. I think this should be taken off the "shelves" as a shoddy product - it can possibly damage whatever "appliance" or "device" you "think" it's for - e.g.(too low?)Back of the box "intended usage" reads like this was meant to be a prank. Otherwise, it should simply list out whatever it's *for*.

Useless
There's no hole for the ground plug. There are only 2 holes. You know those 3-pronged plugs that are on, I don't know, EVERYTHING you own? They won't fit in this. It's completely useless. I will return to Radio Shack tomorrow morning to get back the $50 I paid for it there.
