Neat lightweight and bright fitting. Unlike the fluorescent it replaced comes on instantly. This is good for the price. However if you are mounting with surface run wiring eg garage, there is no cable entry, this is not a problem if your cable comes out of the ceiling or wall over which you will be mounting it. I had to drill a hole and bush it for cable. This revealed another concern. What I thought was a completely plastic construction actually has an aluminium channel body and there is no earth point anywhere in the fitting.

Great lamp easy fit up bright and sturdy

Have now got four of these. Two in my loft one in the kitchen and one in the garage. These are great lamps to replace fluorescent lights with, lovely and bright, don’t need time to warm up and are much cheaper to run. I also found installation was easy, although the connection strip is a tad on the small side. Would certainly recommend.

Excellent. Very bright and easy fit. Sliding fixing brackets so you cannot get the fixing screws in the wrong place. Recommended.

Behind the times, at first I wanted a 5ft fluorescent light. Unavailable locally, even though not due to be legally banned until 1923. I soon got the impression that LED replacements now mostly have rubbishy push on connections. Why? That was true at the start of my Amazon search. Then I spotted this product. 4.7 rating. No mention of connection problems in reviews. I found the manual for it at the Saxby website. It showed a connection block with wires screwed tight by bolts! Claimed energy needs a quarter of a fluorescent’s. Search over! When it arrived next day, thanks to Prime, it was obvious what to do. No need to read the instruction leaflet. I guess none of the previous reviewers bothered to read it. But I’m a good boy, so I did. Because it said ‘Please read these instructions carefully before use …..’ And it’s fun reading garbage like ‘.... must be fitted by a competent and qualified electrician’. Both? That’s what’s called a tautology. You must be competent to be qualified! Then I spotted, the wiring diagram was wrong!! No kidding! I emailed Saxby to ask why. No reply. No surprise! Anyway, it’s a nice looking lamp and very bright even when aimed at a white ceiling from the top of a high wall unit. [Reflected light is kinder on your eyes.] The product description says it has ‘a 140 degree beam angle.’ but as positioned the tube looks equally bright all the way round. I saw no need for the extra brightness that MAY be got by putting it on its side to point across the room. Immediate brightness, no warm-up needed, no hum to be suffered. So why the 3* rating? One star deducted for the poxy instruction leaflet. Another for ignoring my email. 3* is also right because, crucially, I can’t predict how long it will last. A very long time is promised, BUT, bad reviews of many much hyped LED products complain that they die much sooner than expected.
