I've been looking for this series for a long time
well, Lord Peter and Harriet Vane ride again! this is an old (33 years!) mystery theater production and the stories are just as interesting as they were when they originally were broadcast. though Gaudy night had to be chopped up a LOT. the chess set is missing, the trip in the punt (where Harriet Vane FINALLY accepted her love of Peter) and Lord St. George are all missing from the production. And the producer was not able to get rights to Busman's Honeymoon which is a sincere loss. Edward Petheridge and Harriet Walters are a perfect Lord Peter and Harriet Vane, and Bunter is (as always) perfectly correct as a valet. well worth watching and buying. I'm glad I was able to find it at a good price. grab it while you can. perhaps the BBC will give us a redo, lord knows they do Sherlock Holmes over enough!!!!!

At last I found it!
If you’re a Lord Peter and Harriet fan, you must have this three-set DVD series (if only to replay the good parts in peace, with no complaints from fellow viewers not as dedicated to Dorothy Sayers as you may be). Worth every penny and not many out there. Buy now!

Good except Gaudy Night
The casting of these is all right, although Harriet Walter has a slightly annoying voice that is unlike the description of Harriet Vane's. Also, I seem to remember that Bunter was older than Peter in the books. But that's not a big deal. The acting was good, although I always pictured Lord Peter in my mind as looking less irritated. :)Strong Poison was quite good and faithful to the book. The parts that were left out are parts that didn't matter so much.Have His Carcase is, I must confess, my least favorite of the Sayers books. I have always found it to drag a bit and felt that, for me, it was too long. The version on these DVDs was quite good, and some of the omissions I even welcomed. :)Gaudy Night, on the other hand, was not done as well. Some of my favorite parts of the book were left out (like young St. George and Reggie Pomfret), but you expect that. What I found baffling were the additions: Why is it necessary for Harriet to remember Annie from her time at Oxford? It makes no sense that she would have been working there for 10 years before the story starts. And why insert that scene with the German customs officer? It seems completely irrelevant, and the run-time could maybe have been used to include more of the climactic scene from the book. I just didn't like it nearly as much as the other two.

Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane
I had purchased the Lord Peter Wimsey's Mysteries: Complete Collection previous only to discover that while it was the "complete" PBS with Ian Carmichael as Lord Peter but if I wanted to also see the Lord Peter and Harriet Vane stories I also had to buy this collection (with Edward Petherbridge and Harriet Wallace). Harriet Wallace makes a charming Harriet Vane and I can understand why Ian Carmichael might have been a "little long in the tooth" to play the love interest to a young Harriet Vane.In any case, I would highly recommend both as I truly enjoyed these series and they hold up well even given they were made in the 1970's.I agree that Gaudy Night doesn't live up to Sayers book...but then better half a loaf. I'd really recommend that anyone who enjoys these should really read the books so much more enjoyable.

Lord Peter and Harriet Vane
A longtime favorite— I enjoy the depiction of Dorothy Sayers’ finest novels. Who else but Harriet Walters could be Harriet Vane? The ACORN production takes the style and times of Lord Peter to life and requires full attention to the details of the murders. “ When you know how it was done then you know who did it!”

Gaudy Night DVD
While many loyal PBS Mystery fans wait in desperation for quality interpretations of Christie, Sayers, etc., novels, if producers are going to film them, they should do justice to the books, and then when PBS sells the tapes/CD's, they should be the full-length version.VERY DISAPPOINTING that a crucial scene, the purchase and ultimate destruction of a chess set, was omitted from the tape.Thoses scenes are paramount catalysts in the relationship between Lord Peter and Harriet Vane. I could not believe that it was deleted! Also, if "they" are going to produce the works of Agatha Christie, don't chop them up and squeeze them into a ridiculous ninety minutes.Cat Among the Pigeons was one of my favorite Christie's, and the recent version was ridiculous. There was a much better version years ago and I cannot locate it.I don't know why PBS cannot seem to realize that there is a vast audience for (Masterpiece) Mystery! Is there no real vision by the Powers That Be?Better than nothing, but it's a mystery to me why we get shortcut versions. They need to be two hours in length in order to do justice to the great works. They will say, of course, money...but I think other genres are simply favored by the decision makers.

Entertaining adaptations of three Dorothy Sayers novels.
Three very entertaining tv adaptations. Edward Petherbridge and Harriet Walter were/are quite convincing as Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane. Unfortunately, BBC produced only three adaptations of the series.

a must-see for all Sayers fans!
Great cast with a script that stays very close to the original. Definitely to be recommended. Pity they didn't film more books with the same actors.

Terrific
I bought this DVD for myself and have started watching it. The quality is great and of course Dorothy L. Sayers mysteries are among the best. The acting in this collection is also wonderful. Best of all, it arrived several days earlier than expected which was a great bonus in itself. It is new and in perfect condition. Thank you.

Obs: Region 1!
